Gerard Gorman has been interested in wildlife for as long as he can remember. A very experienced European birding & wildlife guide he founded Probirder (www.probirder.com) a guiding service for birders and wildlife watchers visiting Central & Eastern Europe over 20 years ago. His knowledge of the wildlife and birding sites of the region is second to none, having visited every country from the Baltic in the north to the Black Sea in the south. He is also a widely published author. His main ornithological interest focuses on the Picidae (woodpeckers) and he is widely regarded as an authority on the European species, being author of the acclaimed handbook Woodpeckers of Europe (published by Bruce Coleman in 2004), a monograph on the Black Woodpecker (Lynx Edicions 2011) and is currently working on a photographic guide to all the world's woodpeckers. He also maintains blogs on World and European woodpeckers. If all this were not enough, Gerard is keenly also interested in wildlife tracks and signs and keeps a blog on that subject, too. His also is author of Central and Eastern European Wildlife (Bradt)and A Pocket Guide to Tracks and Signs (due in late 2013 from New Holland).
