What if, in the wake of more than a decade of devastating weather events, we finally found a way to control Mother Nature and the destruction her tirades entail? When catastrophic climate change endangers Earth’s very survival, world governments unite and create Project Dutch Boy: a global net of satellites surrounding the planet that are armed with geo-engineering technologies designed to stave off the natural disasters. After successfully protecting the planet for two years, something is starting to go wrong. Two estranged brothers (Gerard Butler, Jim Sturgess) are tasked with solving the program’s malfunction before a worldwide geostorm can engulf the planet.

This a slightly futuristic tale (2019), after a series of devastating natural weather disasters the World comes together
to build a number of climate-controlling satellites to neutralise the severity of the storms, their chief architect Jake
Lawson (Gerard Butler) who spends much of his time overseeing their smooth-running.
However, after Jake acts without authorisation as is his way one too many times he becomes replaced by his brother
Max (Jim Sturgess)
Jake basically becomes a bit of a recluse until three years on there appears to be a malfunction in the satellite complex
when it is discovered that a Afghanistan village has been frozen, all residents lost......
After internal discussion at the highest level it is realised that there is only one man that can correct such a malfunction..
Jake, brother Max is instructed to try and persuade Jake to investigate the fault.
He will find things to be more serious than he could of imagined, is there a more sinister reason for what is happening
to the weather ? ....with time running out can Jake advert a Geostorm that would wipe out millions of souls and destroy
much of Earths infrastructure or is it too late ?
In truth, the theme takes on a similar format to that of earlier disaster-movies, however with a good cast line-up and
some stunning c.g.i the film though perhaps predictable is worthy of a glance in my view.
Now I know it’s a disaster movie and I wasn’t expecting a Shakespearean plot, but GEOSTORMS storyline is truly bad, so bad I could tell you all the spoilers and twists here and now and it wouldn’t make a blind bit of difference to your experience of the film simply because the film hasn’t really got one which isn’t pretty much explained on the title. The script is, let’s say poor. Jake ( Gerrard Butler ) a man who’s meant to be a scientist but comes across as an action hero actually talks about his childhood fishing trips where his father hid the cell ( mobile ) phone, how old are you Jake? Did they have cell phones when you were a child??? It really is that amateurish. A B movie with a triple A buget 120 million dollars to be precise.
Now to the positive. A 120 million dollars is a lot of money and can save a film. The CGI is good and great cast of actors can make a terrible script seem ok. The film is fast paced, action packed and sometimes so corny it will make you chuckle. I actually found myself enjoying this film despite its patently obvious weaknesses. Clearly no Oscar winning movie but
A good film just to sit back and enjoy
