This author can be hit or miss for me. I've found her last few offerings have been misses and this one also falls into that category.
The characters of Hale and Bri are one dimensional. The author didn't take the time to flesh them out so I was left feeling nothing about this story. There was no connection between them. They just meet up for sex. They don't tell each other any personal details or anything about their lives so when it came to them confessing their love for one another, I wasn't convinced.
There was too much 'telling' and not enough 'showing'. I felt an important part of Hale's past was just brushed over, in fact, him and Bri never got around to discussing it. She had found out about it through another character in the book and later, Hale tells her about it all by sending her a folder with details of everything about himself. This is after they are supposed to have fallen in love At no point did they even discuss it or have a conversation about it. Bri doesn't seem concerned nor does it bother her that Hale has spent his time being the 'Gentlemen Mentor'. I found the story unoriginal and predictable. The little twist in the tale fell flat as I found it totally unrealistic that someone like Hale would have a room mate.
I didn't see the need for what happened near the end of the story. It just made them seem like all they were about was sex, sex and more sex! I have read other books with a similar theme to this one and they were written a lot better than this offering. I feel like this author seems to rush her books. They end up feeling 'unfinished'. This one reads like a rough draft that she never got around to fleshing out into a proper story.
They have six sessions in which Brielle becomes acquainted with the dynamics of a Dom/Sub relationship but it turns out Hale's got a heart and he's fallen for Brielle.
There is light BDSM, I say light cos Brielle isn't a seasoned sub and BDSM can be a lot more intense having said that their sessions were quite sexy.
A good story with Hale keeping a secret that will shock Brielle ;).
Your email bored me to tears.
No wonder you need help attracting a man.”
Books in Lessons with the Dom are stand-alones, but most enjoyed if read in order:
Book 1: The Gentleman Mentor
Book 2: Sinfully Mine
Book 3: Untitled
The Gentleman Mentor (stand-alone, book 1) opens up to real estate agent and self-proclaimed bookworm, Brielle Gertrude, Brie spotting an ad on an internet dating site: For five long years she has been pining after her best friend Kirby, but he won’t make a move. Brie decides to hire the Gentleman Mentor to learn techniques of attracting and enticing Kirby.
Cameron Alexander Hale, Hale aka Gentleman Mentor is not looking for a series hock-up. After a heartache in his past, more to unfold with story, he enjoys tutoring women in seduction, sexual play and light BDSM.
“And for the next six weeks, this p*** y is mine. Say it Brielle.”
And so they embark on a journey of sexual awaking for Brie that quickly shifts both of their worlds off axis, with Cameron feeling possessive and Brie confused. Add to that addictive, pushing all boundaries sex in conspicuous places that have both coming back for more. But when painful pasts and secrets come back to haunt them who will be mentoring whom?
CAMERON ALEXANDER HALE, Hale aka Dom aka Gentleman Mentor: 28 years/Attorney/Dark hair/Amber-brown eyes.
Seven words to describe Cameron Alexander Hale, Hale aka Gentleman Mentor: Commanding. Possessive, jaded, secretive, elusive, blunt, in-control and non-committal.
“Pushing a woman to her limit is as gratifying to me as the sexual release itself.”
BRIELLE GERTRUDE, Brie aka Bookworm92: 26 years/RE agent/Brown hair/Blue eyes.Read more ›
