I think I must have most of the books written about Genesis so I wasn't going to miss out on this one too. Previous works have detailed the history of the band from a third-party perspective and so it was good to have a book where the text has come from the band members themselves along with their producers and managers. Anyone reading about Genesis for the first time may need to refer to other material as well for a full history, but I guess if you buy it you're already familiar with the band.

Obviously some of the photos have appeared before but there are numerous new ones and it is good that this book also captures the latest tour.

It is worth noting that the hardback version is very well put together, with thick glossy pages; a quality feel, befitting its RRP.

Just waiting for the DVD now - I was at the Manchester gig so can't wait to re-live the set (I've bought the CD of the Manchester concert which is another great buy).

I waited for 2 months for this book to arrive and when it did I wasn't disappointed! It's written from interviews from all band members and 'side men' in such a way that you feel part of conversation. Very detailed, personal and comprehensive. Pictures are great with a lot of snaps I hadn't seen before. For all you Genesis buffs out there what are you waiting for (well, apart from the Live 07 Tour DVD....)!!

I couldn't agree more with Mr.Millingtons review. This is a beautiful book about a superb group. I always regarded I Know What I like by Armando Gallo as THE definitive book about Genesis but this is even better than that wonderful tome. I love the way the whole book is their story, their words. I also love the pieces written by the other contributors like Richard MacPhail and Ahmet Ertugen, a real insight...it feels different and is therefore a must-have for anyone wanting to know about their history. ....although also equally enjoyable for someone who thinks they knew everytihng about the band. Oh, I haven't even mentioned the photographs.....Deserved 5 stars !

What a wonderful book! The Genesis story as told by the boys themselves. It covers their entire history and doesn't hold back on the more difficult and interesting episodes (key people leaving, carrying on without Phil Collins etc), but most of all it reminds you of the great music they created and the memorable live shows. I always felt that Genesis put more great songs on one album than most bands managed in an entire career. Like other bands of the genre (King Crimson come to mind) there are distinct eras of the band (with Gabriel, early without Gabriel, later without Gabriel etc), all are covered here. The book is a quality product and crammed with great photos you won't have seen before. Anyway, please have no doubt that this is a truly wonderful book and at the Amazon price it is unmissable!

As you'd expect from a dedicated fan of the band, I've been devouring this in huge chunks. Even though it's mostly a re-telling of stuff I largely knew already, I always find it entertaining hearing or reading the story of this remarkable, one-off band. And there are snippets here and there that I hadn't heard before - for example I was interested to read about the development of the varilite, a story I hadn't seen in detail before, and Tony Banks's upset at the band not being included in Live Aid (so much so, he couldn't bring himself to watch it on TV). Plus there are plenty of photos from all eras I hadn't seen before.

But there are also problems; I longed for more detail on the actual songwriting, especially as some of it is tantalisingly touched on. Perhaps my ideal Genesis book would be a track-by-track breakdown of each album, by the band thmesleves in the style of this book. Other potentially interesting areas were flirted with, but not developed. So in some ways it's a frustrating book.

Worst of all, though, are the errors. It's been badly proofread, and is sprinkled with spelling mistakes and other typos. Some of the pictures have been put in reversed - you can clearly see Banks at audience left and Rutherford & Stuermer apparently suddenly left-handed in some of the concert pics. Other live images are wrongly attributed - e.g. images from the WCD tour flagged as the IT tour. These might seem like nit-picking, but they're details you'd expect them to get right in an apparently lavish publication that retails at £30. I'd have to take issue with the reviewer who said it was a "quality publication."

All the same, for the dyed-in-the-wool fan - and even some more casual fans - it's a good read but I'd advise looking for special offers or waiting for the paperback (in which I hope they'll have ironed out the mistakes); you really don't want to be paying the full whack for it.

The authors of this book are credited as: TONY BANKS, PHIL COLLINS, PETER GABRIEL, STEVE HACKETT, MIKE RUTHERFORD. The book is edited Philip Dodd, who also wrote the 2 page introduction.

360 pages. Each author tells his own part of the tale which is chronologically set out. More photos than you could wish for (possibly).

I went to see Genesis live in Manchester 7/7/2007 (some of you may well have seen them in London at Live Earth that day to). I didn't buy a programme; I considered it to dear. But with a £10 gift voucher I put £20 towards this book that September. Yes it was £30 at the time and I was not disappointed then, and not now. It is an in depth read at 360 pages, historical, very well organized, and topped with lots of excellent photos.

The book even covered the 2007 tour. I would recommend this book, especially now with it's greatly reduced price to any music fan and not just die hard Genesis fans out there. Yes, I am a fan, but a die hard nut? Probably not. Not far off though even if I do say so myself.
