4.0 out of 5 stars Valuable study resource! 13 Sept. 2014
By John Mitchell - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Kindle Edition Verified Purchase
I have greatly enjoyed this study of the opening book of the Bible. The approach these authors have taken makes for very enriching study. My only caution is that I have tried to proceed through the study using my iPad but the extensive opportunities to answer self-study questions are a bit cumbersome in the tablet format - at least in my experience. Also, I suggest reading through this study in conjunction with listening to the sermon series on Genesis which can be found on the web site of the United Christian Church in Dubai; John Folmar's sermons have greatly enhanced my study (www.uccdubai.com).

1.0 out of 5 stars Not a good study guide. 8 Mar. 2016
By J. Price - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Paperback Verified Purchase
I chose this study based upon the written reviews here on Amazon, as well as the fact that there are a series of these guides for the other books of the bible. This was a mistake, and I must apologize to my classmates for choosing this study guide. This guide was written by Phd's apparently for Phd's.

I've never read such rambling, frustrating questions in all of my life. One question took one quarter of the page and, as my wife put it, the structure of his sentences and questions is just very bad. The sentences are difficult to follow and many of the questions make no sense.

Mr. Kim cites that in creation the pattern was to work (six days) and then rest (on the Sabbath). I agree with that completely. Somehow, from 1 Corinthians 15:9-10 and Philippians 2:12-13, Mr. Kim comes to the conclusion that: "In the gospel, the pattern is to rest then work" (page 15), citing the mentioned verses. Much of the guide is like this, as if verses were just plugged in as references whether they support the point or not.

I regret the purchase of this study guide. This Wednesday I will apologize to our study group for this decision. Please try to view this guide in a bookstore before spending your money on it.

5.0 out of 5 stars A bargin for a solid study guide 21 Dec. 2013
By Gary Gilberd - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Paperback Verified Purchase
For less than $10.00 we get a Bible scholar's notes on the Book of Genesis. Dr. Kim has produced a concise set of study notes for each of the 12 weekly lessons that follow the outline of “The Place of the Passage,” “The Big Picture,” “Reflections and Discussions,” – the questions sections which is especially helpful when using this work as a set of lesson plans – “Gospel Glimpses,” “Whole-Bible Connections,” and “Theological soundings.” It is often said that it takes more time and skill to write briefly than to write without thought to length. This work is a brief as I have seen for a Genesis study guide and yet seems to cover the essential points.

I strongly recommend this 12-week study to almost anyone interested in understanding the first book of the Bible.

I eagerly await Dr. Kim's next book.

Thank you for the timely delivery of this volume. It is a rich resource cradling the study of Genesis within the arms of historical theology.
