Product description

Generation Cherry absolutely nails a major emerging social trend - a whole generation who are unable and unwilling to retire. Unable - because their pensions won't support them; unwilling - because they have longer lives and more to offer. The author terms this generation 'second biters'. Currently, however, our society doesn't recognise the value that these second biters can bring and isn't set up to benefit from it. So this is an individual handbook, a battlesuit almost, for all of us who want to continue to be economically active well into our sixties and seventies, and who have something to offer the wider world in terms of experience, stamina and - who knows? - possibly wisdom. --Charles Kingsmill, Leading Business Strategy Coach

In an increasingly uncertain and insecure world this is an optimistic and essential guide for our times. --Malcolm Durham, author of WealthBeing

The great strength of Tim Drake's book about how we should try to come to terms with personal setback in this unwelcome world is that he draws on his own, difficult, experiences of handling a career meltdown. His practical suggestions for dealing with a sudden and painful change in career and personal prospects offer sound guidance not just to older citizens. Many forty plus strivers of today are destined to find the next twenty years a lot harder in career… they too may find the lessons and coping strategies he has drawn from his experiences not only practical, but also reassuring and inspiring. --Stewart Fleming, former US Editor, Financial Times

About the Author

Tim Drake has co-founded and run a retail business, is a trustee of several charities, and has founded and runs CEO Think Tanks in several industries. He won a Rugby Blue at Cambridge (many decades ago) and is still a promising youngster at heart. He believes that many people feel, like he does, that they have unrealised potential, and that they are looking at ways to release it.

He is now in his seventies, but like more and more people nowadays, he is thinking and behaving like someone much younger. He is putting more into life, and getting more out of it. Generation Cherry is his fourth book, and he had the most fun writing it.

Ostensibly it's about getting a second bite of the cherry of life for people approaching retirement, or finding themselves redundant, but as it evolved it became wider in its relevance. Because many of the challenges facing 40, 50, 60. 70, and 80 year olds are also facing younger generations.

How do you retain a sense of control in your life, when the old stabilities of conventional jobs and career development are dissolving around you?

How do you live positively with income uncertainty?

Tim shares some of the answers in Generation Cherry.

He is married with two grown up daughters, and lives in London.
