4 stars to begin with until I've given the jacket a bit of a shakedown. I didn't realise that it was from Sports Direct (my fault, I didn't read the write up) or I may have thought twice about buying, however... The jacket was delivered 2 days after being ordered, even with free postage and arrived in perfect condition. I usually find clothing from Sports Direct to be slightly small so here we go...
I'm 6'1" with long arms and a 46" chest. The XL is a good close fit - I'm not going to fit anything bulky underneath, but so far it feels warm enough that I don't think I'll need very much anyway. So, sizing is on the snug side but for the look and style of this jacket - perfect. Go up at least one size if you want to wear a jumper or anything with added bulk underneath if you're around my size - the rest you can work out for yourself.
The soft shell is indeed soft and the fleece lining very comfortable. The two zippered side pockets are accessible from inside the jacket too BUT be aware, they are not fully sealed at the bottom so small objects will find a way out. The neck does up far enough to keep out the wind but not enough to feel claustrophobic.
Once I've had a chance to test out the rain resistance I'll update this review but having other soft shell items, these are not usually very good in more than a steady shower. Snow won't stand a chance though. Wind resistance however, I pretty much know it's not getting through except at the waist which does not have a cord to cinch it in. This will probably aid the breathability of the jacket but I do think I'm going to suffer with some "condensation" when I'm cycling.
We may squeeze in another star later, it's not far off now, but I'm reserving judgement until it's been worn a couple of times and tested properly. First impressions are very, very good though.
I paid the full requested price for this item, I did not get a discount, but I live in hope.
