Have to say I was between 3 and 4 stars for this. I nearly didn't bother with it after reading the reviews but on Amazon it gets some good ones so gave it a go. It's not a sweet romance, killing is glorified but Jake is sweet with mia and he really wants a better life for her. Not really sure what to say other than I wouldn't reread but did enjoy it.

Like most of the other reviewers I love the damaged series and as a result Bijou is one of the authors I always look out for but I couldn't, no matter how many times I tried get on with this book. I like a good alpha male character and I do like them a little dominant and the females therefore less so but this book was on a whole different level, I found it uncomfortable to say the least, these are two people who have suffered, theirs lives have been dreadful and normally I would like a book where the alpha male swoops in and rescues the helpless female because he wants her so much but this was creepy and unsettling especially when she explains about the doll and I'm sorry but this is not the book for me. I tried on several occasions to read this and each time I got a little further but I just couldn't see her as anything other than a child and, well it's creepy to say the least.

What can you say, Bijou is a master story teller and this is a really good story. With a lot of in-depth thought on the relationship between two very disturbed souls she brings the story line to a lovely conclusion that is very believable. Enjoyable and well worth 5*s and a book to have on your "to read" list.

I enjoyed this story, which felt like a futuristic, dystopian dark tale. It also felt like a fairy tale in part due to the child-woman, Gidget/Mia. The premise of the messed up childhoods of both protagonists, Mia and Jake, was heartbreaking. It made me really envision the horror that children somewhere out there, right now, are having to endure. That was the realism the author brought here, for me. It made me think; if a book makes me do that, it's a winner. The pace was steady for the most part; it could have been better in some places in the narrative, particularly towards the end. There was also a bit of repetition in places; Jake talking about his inability to express love, verbally was one example. However, I loved enough of it, that I still feel warm and fuzzy, afterwards. I would recommend it as something different within this genre; if you like different, you'll enjoy this! ;-)

Loved all the other books by you but for me I just couldn't get into this one :( didn't like how child like Mia was as every time they got down and dirty in my mind she reminded me of a 16 yr old. Sorry xx
