For those of us who enthused over Grahame Farrell's first book, our search for something as good is at an end as Mr. Farrell's latest title 'Gaslight Villainy' fits that bill admirably. It is a thoroughly enjoyable read, and once again the research behind each individual case is second to none. As dedicated fans of this genre we deserve no less of course, so with standards this high, eagerly await the next one....

Was looking forward to this book after reading the authors first book about more modern murders, and I wasn't disappointed! Another well researched book, Mr Farrell has a talent for recounting the facts about murder cases in a way that keeps the reader gripped! Will wait eagerly for the next one now!

These tales recount how crimes were solved (or, in many case, not solved) before forensic evidence. Expertly researched and superbly told. All followers of true crime must read this excellent book.

Grahame Farrell's 2nd publication was as good if not better than the first. The style of writing maintains your interest in each chapter and the analysis proves thorough research.

Once again Mr Farrell has excelled in his second volume of true-crime tales. Each gruesome story is carefully crafted, bringing to life the darker side of the Victorian world which its protagonists inhabit. Farrell has clearly spent hours of meticulous and painstaking research to create an accurate and descriptive picture of the life and times of the weird and wonderful persons who inhabit these pages. This collection is a real page-turner and Farrell totally immerses the reader to want to know more about the bizarre and underhand happenings contained within these pages. He has taken trouble to extricate some of the less familiar cases of the time, which keep the reader guessing as to 'who done it'. This is essential reading for true-crime afficianados, as well as for those of us who just enjoy a gripping and thrilling read. A must-have and excellent value. What does Mr Farell have in store for us in volume 3? I can't wait to find out! Ms yg

This is my new favourite book! Very well written with lots of detail that helps you to imagine the scene. A cliché, but I actually couldn't put it down. Anyone interested in Victorian crime should read this book! Hope the author sticks with this genre and writes another to share more of this history with us

So far I am only halfway through the book, but I am finding it fascinating reading. One can get quite involved in the stories and feel very agrieved if a perpetrator gets away with it, which thankfully is not often. Each story is no more than a chapter but nevertheless contains all you need to know about who, what, why and how. I look forward to reading the rest.
