Garrett (Cold Fury Hockey #2) by Sawyer Bennett
4 stars!!!

“Please don’t punish me for caring.”

I was eagerly anticipating reading Garrett’s story after reading about him in Alex, he had already made an impression on me and even at the end of Alex I was itching to get my hands on his story.

Garrett always came across as a jack the lad type player in Alex and in essence he was, but he hadn’t yet met the one. I have to say that once he had met that woman that made him weak at the knees, Garrett changed, literally a complete 180. He was smitten and he literally turned a corner over night and once Garrett goes in, he goes all in. He went in, eyes wide open, with his total heart, body and soul and it was beautiful to read and she made him fight for it.

“I’m just figuring out that maybe he wants something more than a notch with you.”

Garrett Samuelson is living the life he loves, he loves hockey, he lives and breathes it and nothing compares to the thrill and the rush that he feels when he is on the ice. He has money, great friends and can get any woman he wants, in fact they throw themselves at him. What is not to love about his life? He isn’t looking for love at all but sometimes fate has other ideas…

Olivia is Sutton’s cousin and Sutton has dragged her out to a hockey social event much to her disgust. Olivia is gorgeous, a bit hippy but she is fun, sweet and carefree. Her mum having been a hippy at heart has had a lasting effect on Olivia, so that fun carefree attitude is exuded from her and being a florist harbours her creative side.

Love this book!! Garrett and Olivia are great. They may have had rough patches but I cried when they got back together. What a great epilogue.

I love this quote from Sawyer Bennett acknowledgements. "Cancer today is not always the big 'C' that we have always feared. I wanted to show that there is hope and there can be a happily ever after."

Garrett Samuelson is a player for Cold Fury Hockey team but he is a man-whore. There is no doubt in my mind, he would sleep with any woman. That is until Olivia comes along and knocks his world off it's axes.

Olivia Cases cousin is Sutton, who is engaged to Alex from book 1. Olivia wanted to take a step on the wild side with Garrett. She wanted a fling, not a relationship. She is being treated for cancer and doesn't know what's next for her. The more she gets to know him, the more she falls for him. She has to tell Garrett the true about her cancer but she doesn't want to risk everything.

I would recommend this book.

Other readers thought this was an "easy read"??? It's about cancer! While I accept that I have some baggage where that is concerned, cancer is just not what I want to read about in a sports romance - or any kind of romance for that matter. The scenes dealing with the cancer diagnosis, treatment and side effects are all too realistic leaving the rest of it as unrealistic, totally unbelievable fluff. Sawyer Bennett totally miss-fired with this one i.m.o. I enjoyed "Alex" and bought the next 2 on the back of that. I might try number 3 in a few weeks, but this misery-fest has really put me off.

I really enjoyed "Alex" the first book in this series and was eagerly awaiting "Garrett", and I wasn't disappointed by this story of Garrett and Olivia. Being from the UK I know very little about Ice Hockey but have enjoyed learning about the sport from these books. Garrett being the single playboy of the Cold Fury Hockey team falls in love at last but of course their path to happiness is not easy. Olivia is sick and most of the story was about their fight for a long future together. I understand the logic behind the story being a survivor myself, however some of the book was a bit depressing and sad. The epilogue was very short and sweet but obviously gave us a message. Without spoiling anything I'm not quite sure all of what was in the epilogue would be possible but hey I'm not a doctor and we all like to believe. I recommend this series and this book and excitedly await "Zack".

Sawyer Bennett had me on edge, scared, all through this book. She is a terrific author and I know she would have thought through different conclusions. I was scared she was going to break my heart again.

She did, of course. She lures readers in with her well rounded characters and exquisite, pacy narrative then she latches on. There is nothing that will release you from a Sawyer Bennett book before it ends.

Garrett takes a subject that is emotionally draining and through research weaves a horribly believable scenario. Not content with that she brings in secondary characters, using their stories to twist the knife even more.

She is good at this...no she is great. Garrett is another fantastic book in the Cold Fury series. If you haven't read them before start now. I guarantee you won't stop till you get here - waiting for Zack.
