The nüLink! 2340 is LIVE
New from Garmin is this pioneering live sat nav. As you'd expect, it guides you from A to B smoothly and efficiently – but it does so much more. It's a bit like having an internet connection on your dashboard. Looking for a restaurant? Use the built-in Google search feature. Want to check on traffic conditions? Use our clever 3D Traffic Live service. Need petrol? Look up a live fuel price comparison chart before you fill up. In fact, the nüLink! 2340 features a host of live services which make it the perfect all-round travel companion – anywhere across the UK and Western Europe.
When you buy the nüLink! 2340, you receive your first year's subscription to nüLink! live services free of charge. Included in this package are some of the most useful real-time navigation aids on the market: 3D Traffic Live, online search via Google, five-day weather forecasts, Speedwatch safety camera reports, flight arrival times, parking availability and pricing information, and currency conversion charts. Some other apps, such as live fuel prices, are subject to a small monthly subscription.¹
Get traffic alerts
Garmin's best-ever traffic service, 3D Traffic Live, will transform your journeys and reduce much of the frustration caused by congestion and roadworks. 3D Traffic Live pulls together information from millions of live sources to update the sat nav every two-to-three minutes and suggest alternative routes to avoid tailbacks and bottlenecks. It analyses historic traffic trends, combines that with current data to keep track of gridlock, and predicts the volume of traffic according to the time of day, for example. To avoid jams, just tap the screen to take the system's recommended re-route and you'll be saving a heap of time and money.
See the traffic
But that's not all. Unique among sat navs, the nüLink! 2340 can actually display live images from traffic cameras to complement 3D Traffic Live. This means that, when it alerts you to traffic build-ups, you can look up our PhotoLive traffic images to see road conditions for yourself. Save your most-used cameras to the sat nav for ease of access, or check them before you set off. When you buy the nüLink! 2340, you receive a free 30-day trial of PhotoLive cameras, after which a small subscription is payable.
The widescreen nüLink! 2340 comes preloaded with street-level mapping for the UK, Ireland and 24 countries of Western Europe. It features millions of points of interest to enrich your travel experiences and guide to you new discoveries. Why not add a cityXplorer pedestrian map? Then you can use the sat nav as a handheld GPS and explore the sights on foot or public transport.
Hands-free phone calls
When driving with nüLink! 2340, you can keep both hands on the steering wheel even when making phone calls, due to built-in Bluetooth wireless technology. Furthermore, the text-to-speech function in all Garmin sat navs clearly announces driving directions, letting you keep your eyes on the road.
Know where you're going
Garmin has developed nüRoute technology to learn your driving habits and recognise your favourite routes – sometimes you won't even need to key in a destination, it will be anticipated for you. The nüLink! 2340 can predict where you're going and estimate your arrival time with a high degree of accuracy.
Get in lane
Garmin's exclusive PhotoReal Junction View helps you navigate complicated motorway interchanges by displaying a realistic image of each junction – including landscaping and signage – and showing which lane you need to take for your onward journey.²
Personalise your nüLink!
Customise the main menu to display your most-used features, and use the sat nav to access the nüLink! store where you can download additional apps direct to the unit.
Invite your friends to follow your journey using the free tracker app included in nüLink! 2340. Use the sat nav to send them an email so they can track your every move over the following 24 hours – either via computer, smartphone or compatible sat nav. The tracker allows you to announce your location on Facebook or Twitter, plus it's useful when travelling in convoy.
Save fuel with ecoRoute
Our award-winning ecoRoute software helps you save fuel and reduce your driving costs. Lower your carbon footprint by choosing to follow the 'less fuel' route to your destination – available on all Garmin sat navs. The nüLink! 2340 is also compatible with ecoRoute HD – Garmin's diagnostic computer accessory.
Watch your speed
The nüLink! 2340 comes with a unique Speedwatch safety camera warning system. This alerts you to approaching speed cameras, warns you if you are driving over the speed limit, and enables you to report the location of fixed and mobile cameras so that other drivers are made aware of restrictions in good time.
¹ One-year data subscription to nüLink! live services included with purchase of nüLink! 2340 while offer lasts; coverage of select nüLink! live services is subject to regional variations.
² Not available at all junctions.
Top Customer Reviews
Recently when I was looking to update again I naturally looked at Garmin and Tom Tom as they are the 2 market leaders, I thought about changing to Tom Tom but was immediately put off by the very high level of unfavourable comments about the on line back up service.
Upon researching the Garmin range and picking out the NuLink 2340 as being the most suitable for my needs, I was even more surprised to read the amount negative comments from other people who had bought this system, looking at their comments a 2nd time it seemed as though quite a few of these commentors were new to sat navs.
Based upon my past extremely good experience of Garmin I decided to buy this unit, in the past few weeks I have been using the 2340 mainly for business use and I have to say it is a superb sat nav system, I would not hesitate to recommend it to anyone else.
My only niggle is unlike my old system where I could choose between 1) fastest route, 2) shortest distance, 3) off road - which I use frequently and 4) can't remember this one, each time I planned a new route, on the 2340 it remains in the main menu, I would have preferred to choose this option for each new route.
Best feature for me is the overall ease of use.
Very useful feature for me is the Google search option.
Some of the features are only available if you pay a subscription eg traffic cameras, petrol prices, but you need to check all that first on the Garmin website.
Overall a wonderful purchase that I wouldnt be without.
Since this review we have driven to Austria in 2012 through France, Germany, Luxembourg and we have never got lost or not arrived when and where we were supposed to. I think this is a fantastic sat nav.
I got hooked up on the NuLink/Live features and it had good reviews, so I went for it.
I used it 1 day and returned it!
Main Problem: the spoken commands, will very, very often not announce that you need to make a turn at very last moment before the turn.
So the Sat nav will tell you: "In 300 yards turn left on Oxford rd". Then you drive and you expect some 10 yards before the turn to hear: "Turn Left", but that does not happen. To me this is a very fundamental flaw with how the spoken commands are designed. Basically if there is no other cross street before your next, it will announce the turn only once and way too early, so when the street comes you feel unsure if you should turn.
Problem 2: The computer generated voices/commands would sometimes split a command in 2 parts with large pause in the middle:
"Turn left on A5 and at the roundabout" + separate command 30 seconds later: "...take the second exit"
Problem 3: Route simulation is only at actual speed. Imagine trying to watch a simulation of a 2.5 hour journey!!!
Problem 4: Adjusting volume while driving (active navigation running) requires that you re-enter your destination. Annoying if a passenger does it for you, and really unsafe to require all those extra actions from the driver.
Problem 5: While driving on the M1, it told me to take an exit, just to make me rejoin the same M1 200 yards further down (It was one of those exits where it splits and one lane just stays parallel to the motorway and rejoins it.Read more ›
