Wrist-Based Heart Rate
Forerunner 235 uses Garmin Elevate heart rate technology. An optical sensor measures heart rate 24/7 at the wrist, giving you the option to run without a strap. Its colourful gauge identifies your heart rate zone and beats per minute in real time.
On and Off Road Running
A built-in accelerometer captures distance and pace data when you’re running on an indoor track or treadmill. Forerunner 235 estimates VO2 max, recovery time and predicts your race times for several distances when used with the heart rate. Receive audio prompts for lap times.
Once you’re done running, it doubles as an activity tracker, counting your steps and calories throughout the day. It also reminds you to move after sitting for more than an hour.
Forerunner 235 is compatible with GPS and GLONASS satellites to locate your position quickly and precisely whether you’re running deep in the woods or near tall buildings.

The biggest down side is the HR monitor. It's fine during the day walking around etc, but only works 50% of the time when I'm running, apparently I can run a 6:30 mile with a HR of 100 :) I've just purchased a chest strap and I hope that will improve things.
If you are wanting to train using heart rate zones don't rely not the wrist based hr, buy a 230 and chest strap.
My big criticism is the wrist based heart rate which doesn't follow changes in effort (I used it back to back with the 410) so for any interval sessions I will still have to wear a chest strap HMR. With this and the HR sensor on the back of the watch being quite uncomfortable, I think that I would have been better off saving money and buying a 230.
It feels great quality. I have had mine for almost six months and it is still exactly the same as when I first bought it. I read the reviews for various watches before purchasing and I'm glad I chose this one. For how i use the watch, he heart rate and tacking seems bang on.
The only reason why 4 stars is sometimes the watch freezes on a notification, maybe once a month, meaning i have to restart. I have been in touch with Garmin, and although extremely slow in getting back, they offered to swap for a factory refurb. I declined and make do and it doesn't really impact me that much.
Having said that tis is pretty good in terms of the important stuff you can customise it to death and even change things like the pace average period. In terms of measuring pace, speed distance (time obviously) it is really good. Have compared it to numerous other devices and such and it is really accurate as far as it can be given GPS is not a precise thing. I am not sure if you can set up a pace alarm yet - but that's next on my things to learn - the notifications when working are great - on the whole though dead impressed. If you you don't mind battling the complexity and like a gadget then I would recommend.
However if you are umming and erring about weather you need all of the extra functions - and aren't sure then for simplicities sake you may want to go with the 35 - has the basic running functions and is just as accurate.
