I also have the forerunner 620 - this is a nice upgrade from that model.
The watch is big, It doesn't look out of place on my wrist, but it could be too large for some women I would think.
Got loads of features and finds the gps really quickly.
The red is a dark red too which looks great with the silver face.
All in all a good buy and would recommend it, without the dodgy button I would have given it 4 stars.
Would you believe it the button started working again, not sure why or how, so I have bumped it up to 4 stars, the only thing stopping a 5 star rating is the integration with the phone could be better, if your looking purely for a sports watch this is the one to get!
As a day to day watch it looks smart amd like a normal watch as opposed to some of the other sports watches and event the fenix 2.
The activity tracking functions are useful and although the movement timer (watch buzzes at you've been inactive for too long during waking hours) can at times be irritating it is helpful. The step tracker isn't the most accurate and it will often miss more minor movements such as when I'm walking about whilst delivering a presentation, but is good enough.
As a sports watch it's proved to beotustandog, the battery life is good, covering me for the various activities. In terms of accuracy it's always seemed to be more or less identical to everyone else's watch. The amount of data you can generate from a single run or ride is handy, although the recovery timer is a bit generic and doesn't really take into account you're own physical capability but as with the steps is good enough. Tracback has proved handy on a number of occasions and is a good way of just trying out new run routes with confidence that you won't have any dramas making your way back, was also handy on a race that in he previous year of missed a turning but using the basic mapping function available was able to pick it up the second year.
There have been problems with the app in terms of transferring data across but for the most part it's been very quick and simple to use with the Bluetooth transfer and it's not affected the battery as much as I thought it would. Some of the smart watch functions have been quite handy as well (quickly checking a text without taking your phone out or turning down a call discreetly in a meeting). In addition the speed with which you can create your own sports app means you can add more specific use ability as you go along.
The only issue is with GPS. In 80% of locations, synchronizing gets stuck in red just one bar before full sync and you have to wait 15-20 minutes for it to finish. I have tested it outdoors in at least 30 different geographical locations in 4 different European countries and the problem persists.
I have updated software many times but the problem still persists. It is frustrating to wait outdoors for 15-20 minutes before every running training.
That's why I give it only 3 stars.
It is a big watch face but looks stylish and it’s not too heavy - in fact it’s lighter than my normal day watch.
That the fenix 3 charges on the go (if you have a power bank) means I don’t need to worry about it lasting the distance I’d i chose to attempt an ultra marathon in the future
Bought as a refurbished watch and it was perfect no marks at all.
The altimeter and pressure readings fluctuate wildly. I had readings from -300 to 20000m altitude whilst sat in my house and pressure readings down to 0 mbar. No amount of resets and restarts helps. This means proper activity tracking and navigation is impossible which is fairly fundamental for a GPS sports/navigation device.
Garmin don't help as they don't acknowledge the problem.
Google the issue and you will see how widespread it is.
Go with an alternative supplier is my advice.
