Here is your competitive edge
Strava live segments
Garmin Edge 520 is the Garmin bike computer that’s compatible with Strava live segments. Send segments from Strava to your Edge 520 and compete for coveted KOM or QOM titles. With a membership, your starred Strava segments automatically sync with the Garmin Edge 520 for live feedback during your ride. You’ll also get alerts for segment start and finish and leaderboard rankings once you complete the segment.
Train on the edge
Garmin Edge 520 delivers a suite of training capabilities when paired with compatible ANT+ indoor trainers. Let’s say you want to train at an average power of 240 W. Just set the target on Edge 520, start pedalling and the trainer will automatically adjust to keep you at your target while the 520 shows your stats. You can also follow a course that you or another rider created and literally race the recorded stats, with the trainer adjusting resistance to match the elevation profile.
Edge 520 provides performance and power analysis, including time in zone, FTP and watts/kg tracking, cycling-specific VO2 and recovery, and cycling dynamics. Pair Edge 520 with a power meter to get FTP reading and watts/kg tracking, so you can compare yourself to others, as well as cycling dynamics (When used with Vector or Vector 2 power meter, not included). A built-in FTP test helps you establish your baseline either on the trainer or on the road. Add heart rate and the Edge 520 can derive your VO2 max estimate and post-ride recovery time, which indicates how long before you should attempt another hard effort.
The connected bike - varia radar and lights
Edge 520 is compatible with ANT+ sensors, including Varia bike radar and lights, speed, cadence, heart rate, Edge and VIRB remotes and compatible weight scales. It also integrates with Shimano Di2 electronic shifting systems to display your current gear on the screen. Edge 520 is also compatible with ANT+ power meters, including the Vector series.
Live track and weather reports
When paired with your compatible phone and the Garmin Connect Mobile app, Edge 520 offers live tracking, smartphone alerts, social media sharing, weather and wireless uploads. Once your ride is complete, the data can be automatically sent to Garmin Connect, Garmin's online community where you can save, plan and share your rides.
Off the beaten path
The compact, rugged form factor and up to 15 hour battery life of Garmin Edge 520 make it ideal for off-road adventures. It’s also compatible with GPS and GLONASS satellites, to benefit from more signal options, wherever your ride takes you. Edge 520 acquires satellites quickly to track how far, how fast and where you ride - even under tree cover.

Being able to pair it with my smartphone via Bluetooth is great (and needed for the LieTrack feature), because although this model has not WiFi connectivity, if you pair it with your phone, it will upload your session to Garmin Connect or Strava (or other platforms that you may have connected) as soon as you press the stop button, evenif you didnt open the Garmin Connect app. how amazing is that? Happy days for that.
My only complain, which I knew before buying it, is the amount of storage. It's ridiculous. I know this model is not made for navigation, but is able to follow tracks, so I don't really understand why Garmin did not provide it wit a bigger amount of storage to put bigger maps on it and loads of tracks.
That's the only reason I'm not givin it a 5 stars review.
Anyway, great product.
One comment is after one year of heavy use the HR strap supplied stopped working as one of the contacts began to rust. Make sure to rinse/wash regularly to stop salty sweat from corroding the contacts!
