Product Description

Product Description

Clearly display your Garmin sat nav in your car with this portable friction mount.
The mount secures to your dashboard with a non-skid bottom, and the pliable base moulds to fit any dash. If you’re travelling you can fold down the integrated arm for storage and easily move the mount from vehicle to vehicle. It is a portable and flexible solution – simple to affix and remove without risk of damage to any surfaces.
This can be bought as a handy spare to keep in a second vehicle or to replace the original suction cup that came in the box. It is particularly useful if you prefer to have your sat nav positioned on the dashboard as opposed of the windscreen. The fact you to place it exactly where you want on the dash can also be more practical if your windscreen is a long way away.
The mount keeps the sat nav stable and secure at all times, whether you’re on the motorway, winding country lanes and even off-roading. It is easy-to-use as you just place it where you want it and the base sticks to the dashboard, keeping it firmly in place.
When your journey comes to an end you just remove the sat nav and fold the mount up to put away or take to another vehicle.

I bought this Garmin Friction Mount although I already own the Garmin "bean bag" version too to accommodate my Garmin 3790 satnav. I decided to buy this mount in a euphoric moment when I took delivery of my new Audi. I thought this mount looked sleeker (and therefore more "Audi") than the bean bag version.

The underside of this friction mount has a slightly sticky rubber surface and it's obvious that if you put it down on the floor of the car etc. there is the danger of it picking up debris which, if not removed, could scratch the dash. However, I am by nature a fastidious person, and, have not contaminated the underside of this mount - I have removed the satnav rather than the mount. I took my car in for its first service last week and decided to take the mount out. I was very upset to see that it has stained the dashboard quite badly - it is not a sun mark as it does not follow the precise contours of the Garmin base.

Because the underneath of this mount is flexible and the Audi dash is sculpted, it is clear that the stain has been caused by contact between the sticky rubber surface of this mount and the Audi dash. I say this as the staining has only occurred where there is direct contact between the two surfaces. This is very annoying as the stain won't come out even with the use of a quality dash cleaner. I might just be unlucky that the plastic Audi use has reacted with this mount. However, on a car that is under 1 year old and with a genuine Garmin mount this is poor and very irritating. Had I bought a cheap, generic product I would have accepted it was bad luck, but, given the price of these Garmin mounts this is not acceptable. I will be contacting Garmin.

This is a pity as in all other respects the mount functions very well, it is stable, does not slide around and looks good.

Buy this mount at your peril!

I bought this mount a couple of weeks ago and i am very happy with it. The mount is made of silicone and can be easily adjusted to the shape of the cars dashboard. It does not move at all, even when going through narrow turns at high speed. I have a 3 series BMW and a mini cooper. Works perfect in both cars.
When stopping somewhere you just take the nuvi with the mount and hide it in the footwell. When not needed you just fold it and put it into the glove locker. I would buy it again.

GARMIN 010-11277-00 AUTOMOTIVE

Great Purchase. I hated the tell-tale signs of suction pad on the windscreen. I thought that I would try this mount and although there is some bounce in base, it has withstood motorway cruising, country lanes and even the odd off-road.

Bought this to go with my Garmin 255w for a long trip in France, didnt want the windscreen suction cup (a)because of the marks it leaves (b) wanted the unit out of the windscreen vision area,it worked quite well with a couple of reservations ,although it never moved on the dashboard whilst driving ,it did move a bit if i used the touch screen while in place (not whilst driving i might add) so its better to program and replace on holder ,there is also some vibration depending on road conditions but not something that caused problems,i also wonder with continued use if the silicone will retain its sticking properties, but all in all with the limited experience so far its a good compromise.

Having had the window suction mount for a smaller satnav, moving to a 5 inch version I didn't want it dropping off the window at inappropriate moments so got this instead. Whilst it's bulky (but it just fits into my center console to tuck it away) and it has a sticky base which of course attracts fluff and hair, etc., it is good. I only just realised that the side wings are bendable (hinged) rather than floppy so you have to make it mould to the shape you need (sounds obvious in hindsight), so I've been able to move it just to the side of my dashboard at an angle and it works fine. There's a bit of car shake at certain frequency/speeds but doesn't hinder reading the satnav to any extent.

I bought this new mount after reading a single review of it. It seemed less bulky than the 'bag of marbles' product that had been on the market some time. The new design has a grippy base that is protected by a peel off sheet prior to first use. The exposed grippy base soon collects debris, especially if stuffed under a seat when not in use. So far no marks have been left on the dashboards but will trapped grit damage the dashboard surfaces in time as the mount vibrates? I don't know how easy it will be to remove debris or how the security of the mount will diminish as its surface degrades.
It is quick to install & remove but due to the relatively stiff base it doesn't blend into the contours of my MX5 dash at all well & vibrates quite badly. It fits much better on my Honda Jazz. Attaching/removing a satnav to the mount is straightforward.
It should be effective if your vehicle has an ample flat area where you would chose to mount it AND have ample 'headroom' under the windscreen in this area.

I wasn't sure about how good this would be. I'd read other reviews on it - some negative and quite a few positive so I took the plunge and bought one. I can say that I'm very happy with it and it does the job of holding the Sat Nav in a good useable position for driving. It is not as stable as a built in Sat Nav unit, but then I never expected it to be. I did take the car (BMW 330i) on a brisk cross country drive of about 130 miles along A and B roads and the Sat Nav never moved once. Given the bumps and cornering speeds on the drive, I was left most impressed so would recommend this to anyone.
