It’s a good looking watch but takes a few goes to work out which up and which down does what. Still learning. I spent a long while researching a GPS and I didn’t choose a touch screen watch but that might have been easier. Not cheap. It will have to do!
Light weight , clear display . Good basic functionality , seems generally accurate ( although there was a difference of ~ 4/5 m when compared to a Bushnell - don't know which was more accurate ) , but as something used for a general distance guide generally pleased with it's operation.
I found the Garmin Approach watch very easy to use and it provided a lot of useful information. Before I got this watch I used a laser range finder and to be honest, I was somewhat reluctant to change. However, the fact that once I looked at the watch I immediately knew the yardage to front, middle and back of the green made club selection more straightforward.
The ease of getting the yardage to front and back is a significant advantage over any laser range finder, where it is quite difficult to determine the carry over a bunker or the run-out at the back of the green. Similarly, these yardages helped streamline the layup strategy on long par 5s.
The main disadvantage I noticed was that when I strayed offline there was no real way of determining how far I need to pitch out, where previously I would have pinged a tree with my laser device.
I don't normally wear a watch so the strap felt a little uncomfortable initially but then I never noticed it when hitting shots. Overall, I would strongly recommend this device.
I’ve never owned a golf watch before and was slightly intimidated about setting it up. Fortunately a friend who owns a similar model helped me get it going and I have to admit it wasn’t too complicated although I found the controls a little fiddly. It is a mine if useful information and I can see that (eventually) it may have a positive effect on my game! At £135 it seems reasonable value and if you are serious about your golf, well worth investing in.
Superior to my previous early Garmin. With updates on line provides reliable GPS information. To be picky I found the buttons a bit fiddly and no that intuitive how to move to important stuff like ending round. Also the strap is a bit floppy for easy tucking into the loop. To be fair though, after half a dozen games I find I’m well on top of the tec even though I’m an old guy. Overall well pleased and feel was good value
I used this product on a golfing weekend at Celtic Manor. I really liked how it gave yardage the front back of the greens and to the pin. I would definitely recommend this to anyone, however it didn’t assist my golf!!
