Product Description

Simple to use, the compact nüvi 2300T sat nav packs high-end navigation features into an entry-level sat nav. It comes with Lane Assist with PhotoReal™ Junction View, premium lifetime traffic avoidance, speaks street names and has preloaded maps for UK and Ireland. myTrends™ learns and predicts your favourite routes based on time of day and your location and ecoRoute™ helps calculate the most fuel-efficient route to your destination.

Experience nüRoute™ Technology with myTrends
With myTrends advanced routing capabilities, nüvi 2300T learns your driving habits and recognises your favourite destinations to predict where you’re going. This saves you time manually activating a route on repeat journeys and refines your route-planning based on previous trips. So whether you’re driving to and from work or to a regular weekly event, your nüvi 2300T sat nav will help you get there on time.

A Helping Hand on Unfamiliar Roads
nüvi 2300T’s PhotoReal™ junction view provides a realistic reproduction of road signs and junctions along your route, with stunning landscape detail for exceptional clarity down to the exact trees and pylons! With Lane Assist, there’s no more guessing which lane you need to be in at upcoming exits and junctions, with arrows that indicate the proper lane for navigation. So there’s no need to panic, hesitate or make last-minute lane changes, even on unfamiliar routes.

Premium Lifetime Traffic Updates
Steer clear of traffic with nüvi 2300T’s integrated FM traffic receiver and included premium lifetime² traffic updates and travel confident in the knowledge Garmin will handle any traffic problems on your route ahead. Subscription-free for the lifetime of the sat nav, you will receive alerts about traffic delays and roadworks on your route. Next, simply touch the screen on the sat nav to view traffic details or detour around the problem area.

Unique Speed Cameras
Garmin’s unique Cyclops™ speed cameras are built in, giving real-time, reliable and accurate alerts, overspeed warning and speed limit information as you approach one of hundreds of fixed, mobile, variable limit and temporary safety cameras. New or moved cameras are constantly tracked and the central database is updated by Cyclops daily. nüvi 2300T also contains speed limits for all major routes plus Garmin’s new speed limit reporting, which enables you to manually correct / update speed limit information and share any changes via USB.

Find Fuel-efficient Routes
nüvi 2300T saves you fuel and money with ecoRoute - Garmin’s innovative green feature that calculates the most fuel-efficient route, tracks fuel usage and more. You can choose to take the “less fuel” option as a routing preference and when selected, nüvi will determine if a more fuel efficient route exists based upon road speed data and vehicle acceleration data. ecoRoute helps you develop more efficient driving habits, calculates trip cost and enables accurate expense reporting too.

Complete Door-to-Door Navigation
With its pedestrian navigation capabilities and sleek and compact design, nüvi 2300T is the perfect travel companion in and out of the car. Download optional cityXplorercontent and navigate new cities like a local. Garmin’s enhanced pedestrian mode gives you directions fo r walking including footpaths and shortcuts through parks – places you wouldn’t be accessing while in your car. It also tells you where to catch trains, buses and tubes (dependent on the city) and how long it will take to reach your destination. cityXplorer even contains public transport timetables to ensure you arrive at the station on time and help avoid long waits (dependent on the city).

Get Turn-by-Turn Directions
nüvi 2300T has an intuitive interface that greets you with two simple questions: "Where To?" and "View Map." Touch the colour screen to easily look up addresses and services and get voice-prompted, turn-by-turn directions with spoken street names for extra route awareness with no need to look at the sat nav screen. Garmin’s new Trip Planner feature provides a multi-route preview so you can visually compare the available routes before selecting your preferred journey.

It comes preloaded with City Navigator® NT street maps for the UK and Ireland, preloaded points of interest (POIs) and speed limits for most major roads. Its digital elevation maps show you shaded contours at higher zoom levels, giving you a big picture of the surrounding terrain. With 2300T's enhanced user interface, you can slide your finger to conveniently scroll between screens. You also can upload custom points of interest (POIs). And with HotFix® satellite prediction, nüvi calculates your position faster to get you there quicker.

Where am I?
The Where am I? emergency locator is a safety feature that can be very helpful if you break down or need a local service urgently. Simply tap the car icon on the map screen to get your exact coordinates, address and junction, contact details for vehicle recovery services and directions to your nearest hospitals, police and petrol stations.

I purchased one of these units in February 2012 directly from Garmin. It arrived and I connected it to my laptop and updated the operating system and maps as recommended in the manual. Unfortunately, as soon as I went to use the device, I found that the latest maps are obsolete. I live near the Hindhead Tunnel which opened in July last year and many local roads and junctions around the tunnel have been changed, including digging up the old A3 where it passed between the Devils Punchbowl and Hindhead Common. None of these changes are reflected on the latest maps available from Garmin, whereas Tomtom had updated their own maps about two weeks before the tunnel had actually opened.

The design of the cradle uses a mini USB connector for power and the satnav device itself uses a micro USB connector for connection to your PC, although this cable is NOT included. I can only guess that to save costs to themselves, Garmin updated the devices, but stuck with an old cradle design.

I called Garmin to ask how to return it for a refund and was told, after holding for about 20 minutes, that as I had updated the maps, I am unable to return this useless lump of plastic. I explained that this is not mentioned anywhere on their website trading terms and that my consumer rights entitle me to a refund, but they refused to budge on their stance.

As a result of this experience, I suggest that if you do want a satnav with outdated maps from Garmin, buy it from Amazon who will give you a refund if you want to return it in the first 30 days.

I only bought my 2300LT as it (allegedly) comes with a lifetime traffic subscription. Only trouble is, the traffic icon stays green even when I am stuck in the most immense traffic jam with a major accident in front of me. I have had my unit for six months now, and in that time it only went red once (and that was when the M25 and entire surrounding area came to gridlock due to the QE2 bridge being shut) and twice it went amber when there wasn't actually any traffic. It always says "No traffic on route" even when I have spent literally hours stuck in jams. The software is up to date, the aerial is properly connected (I even use the external antenna for better reception) and traffic avoidance enabled, but still my 2300LT tells me there's no traffic when there are tailbacks of sometimes up to seven or eight miles. I reported this to Garmin who told me to do a whole series of things I have already done and now they are out of answers. They also keep telling me to use menu items that don't even exist on my unit. Finally they tell me that if the green traffic icon is showing that means a traffic signal is being received. (Really?!!!) God knows where this pile of junk gets its info from but having Googled the subject it seems this is a common problem with nuvi devices. Do not buy this under any circumstances if you want it for the traffic info. It's a waste of time. PS. I live in Kent and do all my travel within London and the M25 so it isn't a coverage problem either!

Having had good service from a Nuvi I wanted an Update. Ordered a Nuvi 2300LT. What a disappointment. The first arrived but froze the first time I used it. I attempted to register it with my original USB/Nuvi cable but Garmin site refused to recognise it. So I returned it to Amazon and received a replacement. The USB mini connection has been changed and neither the original Nuvi cable nor any of my 3 USB minis fitted. New cable purchased, tried everything but had exactly the same problems. Having wasted hours and suffered a great deal of frustration I gave up! I returned the kit to Amazon for a refund. No More Garmin!

Three key points:
1. How do Garmin get away with calling the USB cable an "Optional Extra" when it is essential for registering and updating the kit? With Tom Tom it's included! I suppose if Garmin sold cars, tyres would be considered an "optional extra?

2. Amazon service was absolutely superb throughout, including the Advice centre and the "Returns Service". A pity that such an excellent service should be so let down by a product supplier!

3. Should I try TOM TOM? Most revues complain about the software and related problems. Is this an endemic shortcoming of all Sat-Navs?

Was I just unlucky? - what twice? Though my anger and frustration have now subsided I am somewhat biased against Garmin. Paper maps suddenly appear very appealing!

Garmin Nüvi 2300LT UK and Ireland Mapping Lifetime Traffic Subscription What appears to be an excellant satnav, is spoilt by the near impossibly small mini usb up/download connection point situated on the base of the unit. Having ordered the Garmin mini usb lead to go with it, it was still impossible to connect to pc. So thankfully on visiting our local Halfords a fantastic chap there gave us (free of charge) an adaptor that although a TomTom item, fitted into the offending "slot" allowing me to then plug in a standard mini usb lead (I used a Samsung lead off my camcorder). Apparently this is a problem on some models of Garmin satnavs.....so advise NOT to try and force a mini usb lead into the slot that is obviously too small. It is also strange that the connection on the holding "clamp" that powers the unit is a standard mini usb fitting.....you'd have thought the power point would be the same size as the down/upload point. Again I may be a bit mean on my 1 star rating, but having chased around for 2 days trying to sort out the problem I feel that at a cost to Garmin of an additional couple of pounds on the sale price of each unit, Garmin should include a suitable mini usb lead with the unit.
