Tracks Ride Data
Go the extra mile. The easy-to-use Garmin Edge 25 captures essential stats from your ride like time, distance, speed, total ascent and location. Garmin Edge 25 uses GPS and GLONASS satellites quickly to track how far, how fast and where you ride, even under dense tree cover. Unlike a phone, you can use the Garmin Edge 25 for up to 10 hours without worrying about data or battery drainage. When paired with a heart rate strap (not included), it also records your heart rate and heart rate zone so you’ll know when you hit your target.
Choose from courses ridden by others, or create your own on Garmin Connect, Garmin’s free online fitness community. Once a course is chosen, you can upload it directly to Garmin Edge 25 and follow the route, receiving turn prompts throughout, to arrive at your desired destination.
The Edge 25 has ANT+ and Bluetooth compatibilities, providing live tracking with automatic uploads to Garmin Connect which allows your friends to follow your ride. When paired with your compatible smartphone, Edge 25 can display email, text and call alerts. It is also compatible with ANT+ sensors (not included) including speed, cadence and heart rate to get the most out of your rides and training.
At Garmin Connect, you will be able to see a complete picture of your activities, including elevation profiles, mapping and more. Know exactly when it’s time to change out tyres, bike chains and other gear. Use the reports widget to showcase the information you want to see most often. Compete with friends or other cyclists over segments and see your results post-ride on the leaderboard.

The downside is that live segments are not supported, despite being covered in the manual, and having a "Segment prompt" function on the unit itself. So you can download courses to the unit, but not any segments, for sections of the course you want to time yourself against. The segment information can be setup in Garmin Connect (on a PC) & reviewed on your phone after the ride...but not during the ride itself.
Courses sync with the unit, but Garmin Connect states that the Edge 25 is not a compatible device when trying to do the same with Segments.
Garmin support is slow, and frankly, not good. I connected them via their Twitter page. They told me Garmin live segments are not supported, only Strava ones. So after setting them all up again inside Strava & linking the garmin account, again, there was no way of including the segments into the courses. The next support mail from Garmin stated that despite what the manual said, and what they had advised previously, actually neither segments nor courses are supported on the Edge 25 (courses very definitely are...I'm using them).
So the bottom line is...if you want a unit that gives you the headline information during your ride, and a raft of detail afterwards on your phone, then this is perfect. But if you specifically want a unit which supports live segments, this is not for you. Despite what the manual says...
Was surprised how visible the screen is for being so small. Extremely easy to set-up and fit/remove. Only downsides so far are having to recharge quite often and the GPS takes to long to sync at the start of each ride even with the GLONASS switched on. Got round this somewhat by switching it on 5min before each ride. However, that said still a great little quality device. Update 1st June 18 managed to figure out how to keep the light on great for winter. A bit disappointed with the battery life as having to charge every night but I suppose the battery must be tiny.to match the unit size.
UI is a little quirky. Have to press more times than you’d think for various things, including to start a ride so I’ve set off a couple of times thinking I was tracking when I wasn’t. Also not sure who thought putting the option to discard the ride you just did on the end ride menu right after save ride was a good idea!
Bluetooth sync with my iPhone works great and combines with my vivofit 3 tracking in the Garmin Connect app to give a nice complete picture of my activities.
