Product Description

About the Author

Helen Yemm delights in demystifying the whole gardening process, and has been fielding readers' gardening problems through her weekly light-hearted but essentially practical Daily Telegraph page for more than a decade. Her popular Thorny Problems column has attracted a loyal following and her book of the same name, published in 2011, is a seasonal selection from the myriad of letters she has received over that time. She is a sometime gardening teacher, television presenter (Gardening From Scratch and Gardening Week for BBC 2) and now author. Her previous books include Gardening in Your Nightie (2000) - revised and updated to become Gardening in Your Pyjamas - and RHS Grow Your Own Flowers (2011).

Helen Yemm is the only REALLY down to earth gardener who appreciates a beginner (and idiot) and explains everything so clearly.

I would recommend this product to female gardeners of any age, who have plenty of enthusiasm but lack the real 'know-how.'

There were several scenarios that I could relate to myself, and it made me feel mush more normal!!!

Adore Helen Yemms's writing and gardening advice, and her previous book, Gardening in Your Nightie' has always been my favourite gardening book. Couldn't wait to buy her recently published book. Don't bother - so much of the old material is in there. Still, I have enjoyed reading it again but I don't need two copies!

Thank you, thank you Helen Yemm. This book, totally devoid of glossy photos of impossibly perfect flower beds, was as gripping a read as Agatha Christies best.
Bulging with practical tips and information, this wonderful book started to plug the many gaps in my scanty knowledge base. I now understand the meaning of terms such as F1 Hybrids and hardy annuals! I loved Helen Yemms down to earth approach and the way she encourages her readers not to strive for perfection, rather to just experiment and see what works best. She understands that aspirant gardeners change their minds. Helen's non prescriptive approach is refreshing, and where her does say 'depart form this piece of information at your peril' you just know that you wouldn't entertain the idea.
How often did I think out loud 'I've done that' and 'I've thought that' whilst reading this delightful book.
It seems absurd to say that I just couldn't put a gardening book down, but I read it cover to cover, and know I will dip back in to it again and again. Thank you Helen.

I enjoy reading Helen's articles in the Daily Telegraph every week. As I also have two friends who admit to gardening in pyjamas (in summer of course) I thought the book would be a perfect Christmas gift. They were both thrilled and are appreciating Helen's horticultural knowledge and humourous approach to the subject.
