I have been feeding the birds in my garden for almost a year now and have joined a couple of bird organisations, so I have already learnt a lot of what the book covers. If you are in the same situation then this book may not be for you. However, if you are a beginner, or have this book in mind for a beginner friend or child, then this book is quite simply the one to get, and at the price you can hardly go wrong. The colour drawings are very life-like and the photographs are beautiful and I can vouch that a lot of the advice given has already worked for me. It is also a wonderful coffee-table conversation piece that draws non-birders in to a subject that, let's face it, isn't exactly cool.

This is an excellent, easy to use guide for beginners of all ages, who enjoy watching birds in their garden and want to know a little more. I bought this copy as a birthday present for an 84 year old to accompany a bird feeding station. There are many more scholarly guides if the bird watching interest grows but this book is great for starters.....have used it with a 7 year old as well. Highly recommended

This book has some interesting points reference seasons and feeding which I found useful, But if your new to Birdwatching and wish to know what bird is what at the turn of a page, then this book isn't it, by the time you've found the bird in the book It'll probably have flown off. Otherwise a good read.
