Having met Owen and his lovely wife Christine at the TBConFB Glasgow meet up and having heard all about his writing, it would have been rude not to download this! A very gritty Glasgow based novel introducing private investigator, Charlie Cameron. Owen has written a good story against the background of a particularly unpleasant serial killer interacting with Charlie's missing person cases. I thoroughly enjoyed the introduction to the supporting cast of characters and look forward to meeting them again - I could actually see them all in my mind's eye in a Glasgow bar! And the setting in my adopted city was a bonus with lots of references to the places I know so well.
I would definitely recommend this to crime fans and have already pre-ordered the next in the series!

This is a fabulous book. The story is so convoluted and clever, and the way all the strands eventually join together is brilliant. Our hero, Charlie Cameron, is damaged goods, but still hugely lovable and I really warmed to him. The whole set up at NYB is a grouping of damaged people, who are all endearing and who you want to succeed. Even more minor characters, like Gail Logue, leave a mark on your heart. The whole concept is genius and Mr Mullen writes so beautifully that I was captured from the very first page. If this is an example of his first novel, then I can't wait to see what comes next. I highly recommend you read this book, it's superb

I'm an avid reader of this type of crime fiction, so Owen had a lot to live up to with this book. This is the first in a series of 3 books currently available on Amazon featuring the main character Charlie Cameron. The characters are well written while leaving enough mystery to allow growth in subsequent books. Absolutely loved Owen's knowledge of Glasgow city and surrounding areas and look forward to reading more about both the 'regular' characters and the Glasgow area in the next two books. Have actually just started reading the 2nd book, Old Friends & New Enemies and once again becoming hooked, albeit I'm only on the 3rd chapter! Can't wait to move on to number 3 in the series 'Before the Devil Knows You're Dead' as have already been told by another avid reader that they only get better with the 3rd being the best to date!.

Well done Owen, you're doing a great job of keeping me attached to my kindle!

This went on and on and on and on, and I was only half way through the book. It rambled on so much that it got boring. It did draw me in to begin with but that didn't last. I stopped caring about the characters and what had happened to them. It was almost going around in circles and the story of the baby snatched on the beach disappeared, no doubt it came around again at some point but by then I had stopped reading.

I was so looking forward to this story but lost interest half way through, don't know what went wrong to much trivia I think. As an avid reader it didn't hold me at all so I gave up.(not some thing I normally do). 🇬🇧

I found it difficult to warm to the main characters in this crime story, and found it to be somewhat disjointed. The theme was depressing. Not a series for this reader.
