Product description

Review

Connolly creates complicated plots that never unravel. He's just that good. (Kirkus)

If you like your thrillers with an added undertow of supernatural you can do no better. (The Pool)

A Game Of Ghosts is layered with such craft that it is almost a disappointment when things resolve themselves with relative quickness, as if you really don't wish to bid some of these characters behind. Even the most dangerous of them. Of course, in Charlie Parker's world, you never can be sure. (Irresistible Targets)

Once you start this book, make sure you've not got anything else important to do for the next few hours . . . The Charlie Parkerbooks have always been a gripping and enthralling read, but this latest one simply won't let you go. (ScifiBulletin)

Another chapter in the life of Charlie Parker and another fascinating read from the pen of the great John Connolly. Here is an author that seems to be totally in control of his writing and at the top of his game. (Shots)

A typical John Connolly novel...well written, good characterisation and an excellent plot. This guy is my favourite author and reading this book has reminded me why that is the case....I'm now looking forward to his next release....

Every year I wait for the next installment and I read the book in a short time as its just too good.
If you've got to book 15 you should've already read the previous 14 and understand the complexities surrounding Parker and his friends Angel and Louis.
This time he's been assigned to track down another PI who's gone missing. This brings him in contact with the Brethren and more mysteries. Parker has a long way to go and a lot more bad men to find and bring to justice but each book is a great read.

If I could give this book 10 stars, I would. It deserves it. The Charlie Parker series never gets old and tired, it goes from strength to strength. A Game of Ghosts is probably the best in the series. Mind you, I have said that about it's predecessors too.
I hate that I have to wait a while 12 months for the next book. I care about Parker, Angel and Louis, and little Sam. I worry about them. I feel bereft now that I have finished this incredible book. My physical self is in Ireland, but my head and my heart are in Scarborough, Maine.

Book 15 of the long running Charlie Parker series and the usual blend of ghostly demonic scenery offset by a hard hitting, violent PI investigation. In this story Parker is still resident in Portland, Maine, when he meets up with FBI Special Agent Ross who asks Parker to track down Jaycob Eklund, a man used by the FBI to handle particularly "sensitive" cases. There are all sorts of reasons Eklund has disappeared with many clues leading into extremely dark, paranormal realms. The villains here are probably less demonic than I'd expect and the story relies more on the fate of Charlie Parker and both of his children, alive and dead, plus the devilishly scary Collector with his team of Hollow Men. Angel and Louis are on hand for their usual mix of threat and irony but; "A Game of Ghosts" is very different from the other Charlie Parker books. Much slower and extremely surreal but incredibly disturbing and often running into uncomfortably dark situations. If you haven't read Charlie Parker before then I would honestly recommend you don't begin the series here. Go back a few books, or to the beginning. I've read the whole series in order over many years and "A Game of Ghosts" was probably the most challenging. Thoroughly enjoyed the read.

As ever we are left wanting more. Mortality and it's opposite run like rivers through this chapter of Parker's life. We learn more as we walk through the honeycomb world he inhabits. Read in one sitting, nothing more needs to be articulated, Parker is not verbose.

Another masterclass from JC, but with a difference: the third person narrative is a change, but not a negative one, and the emphasis on unsettling supernatural horror is a good one. There's even the usual interludes of wit, warmth and humour from the splendid Angel and Louis. As ever, Parker is a terrific protagonist; tough as nails, an avenging angel but flawed and very human too. Plenty of questions left unanswered which only serves to make me look forward to the next instalment.

Yet again the author never ceases to amaze me with the plot including the unexpected twists and turns his book gives right to the last page. Was unable to put it down after waiting so long for it to come. If anything the plot gets even more interesting as it progresses. Especially enjoy the dark humour that I remember from my years as a cop. It adds the finishing touches to what is already for me my favourite read above all others

John Connolly is my favourite author, since I discovered him and Charlie Parker I can honestly say I am hooked and cannot wait for the next book.
A Game of Ghost took me 2days to read and that was because I had to be at work, I loved this book, it kept me in suspense from beginning to end.
Charlie, Angel and Louis are my heroes, and we all need a hero at times. Jennifer and Sam feel like family and in each book a little of their dynamics are revealed to us the reader, I cannot wait for the next book, John Connolly is a fantastic storyteller if only he could write quicker.
I don't believe in spoiling the book for those who have not had the chance to read it except to say you won't be disappointed
