What an amazing book, pictures are stunning & clear and narration is excellent. Great to either flick through any find out more out the wonders of the Galapagos islands or nice to read through. If you have inquisitive kids... this is a great option to get them hooked on reading.
I'm finding the detail about the Galápagos that this book surfaces, to be highly detailed and well structured. I thought I understand these islands from my past readings, however this book has brought it all together and has to be the one and only all up guide on the history and the current treasures and threats faced by the creatures living in, on and around these islands.
I highly recommend this for anyone who is interested in learning about Galápagos and all it has to offer, Josef has brought this all together in an inspiring book. I look forward to the next book on his next topic.
This is a really excellent book, well written, captivating to read and with marvellous photography and illustrations. I bought Josef's book originally because I've seen his photography before and was hugely impressed with the quality and professionalism of his work. The book takes his skills to another level and packages his work and talent into a fascinating read and makes me want to visit the Galapagos Islands!
This is a perfect book for anyone planning a trip to the Islands as it has many useful facts, figures and ideas that will give the traveller a full understanding of Galapagos. The book stands up in its own right as an absorbing read with the history, development and background of the Islands. I found that once I started reading I became more and more enthralled and wanted to know more about the Islands. It is clear that Josef has deeply researched Galapagos and used his contacts and resources to build a comprehensive picture of Galapagos, then by adding his photography he has published a really engaging book.
I look forward to Josef's next work. (Maybe I will even take a trip to the Galapagos Islands!)
I am about to embark on a trip to Galapagos and bought this book to help inform my trip. What an outstanding piece of work by a talented photographer and writer. He answered every question that I had about the visit and through the quality of his illustrations and photography inspired me to work hard on my own photography! Superb content aside, the book is a high quality product in every other respect. It has a clean, crisp format supported by high quality images on good paper. I would recommend it for fellow travellers or anybody who wants a true sense of what these islands are about. A fine book!
A high quality book with stunning photography that really brings the Galapagos to life. This is more than a photo book though. It is thoroughly researched and is incredibly informative, with pages and pages of historical and current context on the Galapagos Islands. The author clearly has a passion for the conservation of these amazing islands, and this comes through in the book. I have visited the Galapagos before, and found it a great book to remind me of the highlights of my trip, but similarly the book is suitable for those who would like to visit the Galapagos Islands, and could be a great source of inspiration! Content aside, the book is high quality, with a sturdy cover and high quality pages, bringing the amazing photography to life.
this is a soft cover book, with the most fantastic underwater photography I've seen in a long time. The quality of the printing highlights the illustrations and photography and writing are inspiring me to undertake some more adventure travel. Anyone who has seen it on the table has reached for it out of interest and thus begins a conversation about the content. Very pleased with this
Received my copies last week .... Just amazing! I knew from the pre-publication review that this book would be impressive, but I have not put it down since turning the first page. Every aspect of the book is beautifully laid out, very informative as well as some great amusing stories ... but most of all the stunning photography is the icing on the cake. This book would a wonderful addition to any collection or household both for those interested in visiting the Galapagos Islands or for anybody with a love for the natural world. Well Done Josef !!
A very comprehensive overview of the Galapagos. The author takes you on an in-depth tour of these amazing islands, with perspectives on morphology, geology, early history, and most important of all, the amazing ecology and biodiversity which inspired Charles Darwin to write his world famous 'Theory of evolution'. Wheither 'up top' on land, or under the sea on SCUBA, Josef Litt gives the reader a complete view of what the islands have to offer for the discerning traveller. Illustrated throughout, with beautiful photographs captured by the author, this book is a 'must have' for visitors (or indeed, prospective visitors) to the Galapagos. Highly Recommended!!!! :-)
Excellent book, strongly recommended for all those who love nature or who are preparing a trip to these wonderful islands. An encyclopaedic compendium of knowledge that serves as a great introduction to the islands as well and an interpretative guide to be taken into the field. The historic views help us put the things in their context whereas the scientific snippets, bring light into the processes that resulted in these wonders of nature. Clearly the author has complemented his significant expertise with copious research, which yielded an interesting as well as an illustrative book. Will be enjoyed by anyone that has been or is planning to go to these islands as well as nature aficionados anywhere.
This is a beautiful book that is a total pleasure to browse through. Unusually, as well as looking fantastic, it is also full of very interesting and useful information on the islands. A great read (and wonderful present) for anyone, but a must for a potential visitor to the islands.
