Bought this a few weeks ago and have been using it around the garden and in the woods. Firstly it's well made - has a really solid feel to it with the lens covered by a protector hood and the whole unit looks to be totally rainproof (not submersible waterproof though). The camera has a fixed lens f3.1 and a 50 degree field of view, with the IR leds lighting up 40ft quite easily, although more intense in the centre than at the edges of the 50 degrees. Interestingly the unit instructions say return to Bushnell if faulty, so I imagine this is an unbranded Bushnell model, hence the good quality and build. Ask yourself if you really want to pay more for a branded model. Dont expect the image quality to be superb, because it's lowish on detail even on the highest video resolution (havent taken still shots yet) of 720x480. Still you can easily make out animals in the day and at night (as long as they are not too small and right at the limit of the IR range). Mounting is done via a long strap that goes through two eyes on the back but its difficult to get the angle right if attaching to a tree and I usually wedge a stick underneath to adjust the angle. Otherwise you can use the tripod attach on the bottom, but you wont get the full camo effect. You cant look through the camera when its mounted to see what you'll be filming (unless its on a tripod as the back flips open with the lcd scrren inside) so its a bit hit and miss until you get an idea of what area is covered. One issue when using at night is that the IR leds glow red slightly when the camera is triggered. This is due to them being in the 770-850nm redder end of the IR range and not above 850nm, when they would not glow. It's not a major problem but I did catch a fox looking at the camera and running away firghtened when he saw the red lights.Read more ›

I purchased this camera, to record wildlife un-attended, I already have a visible light flash based one, which is 2MP.

The picture quality from this camera is very good during the day, giving good and accurate colour and also at night when the infra-red illumination is used which provides monochrome images only, the range of the illumination at night is good, going to about 12 metres, the camera does over expose quite badly if a subject gets close to the camera at night - much less than about 3m.

I set the camera up on a know badger trail, and managed to capture lots of still and video images the sensitivity of the triggering sensor can be set to either high, medium (default) or low. The normal setting seems to provide a reasonable compromise between sensitivity and excessive false alarms, although according to instructions the other settings may need using in different temperatures.

I found the video setting quite heavy on batteries at high sensitivity at night, the camera lasted only 1 day on alkaline batteries. On the High setting, on 3MP still mode, over 7800 pictures were taken during a 24 hour test, although lots of frames had nothing visible within them. It's possible the camera was triggered, but the subject moved out of frame before the picture was taken, as although the trigger time is relatively quick at 1.1seconds its possible for something on the edge of the sensor area to have left the picture before the picture is taken.

The camera was out in a mixture of weather, and seemed to cope well with rain, frost and sun. The fixing strap works well, and is 3 metres in length, allowing fixing to trees and other positions. When in place on wood, the camouflaged case does disguise the camera well.

This camera is fantastic value and suberp quality. I got this to check out what was in our garden in the small hours of the night and low and behold we have a large badger who visits nightly to eat any left over bird food. Such a relieve not to be rats!
Wec also have a Scottish Wildcat who visits twice a night and all this happens when we are tucked up snug in our beds.
Excellent quality for night vision, totally impressed and at about half the cost of the Bushman.
only used it on video but that's all i want it for, I'm sure the staright ca,era image would be good too.
Easy to setup and use and when you open up the viseo it runs on windows media player so no extra software to clog up the PC.

I bought this Trail Cam to check out the hedgehogs in my garden and it has revealed a life that not even the books tell you about. Some of the behaviour is bizarre to say the least. I then put the camera on what appeared to be a trail in the woods; it was out for one night and detected movement and captured sequences nine times - so only nine minutes of filming. In that time I 'caught' buck roe deer, buck fallow deer, a small herd of fallow hinds; two different badgers, one rabbit and a fox we've called Horatio, because he only has one eye. I wish I hd bought one of these years ago. If you are interested in wildlife - you have to get one, fantastic. Admittedly it does get through batteries pretty quickly, but a purchase of 8 rechargeables and things are fine. (KB)
