I bought this book so that I could help my daughter with revision for her GCSE resit. Having passed other exams well, she proclaimed she couldn't do chemistry and the teacher didn't teach, he just made them copy stuff from the board. She initially got an E grade.
I am reasonablly well educated, but I have never studied chemistry, and my physics and biology o levels were back in, erm herm, 1984.
I spent 2 hours reading the relevant sections of this book for her exams, and then together we worked through the paper she had already sat, using the book as a guide. We got an A*!
Afterwards we each worked independently on other past papers - without the use of the book until we were marking and needed some clarification. 5 papers later and she had grades of 2xA*, 2xA and a B.
This book was invaluable. Ok so it does have a few naff features where the author is trying to 'get down with the kids' (my daughter's words) but it was all we used. She's sitting her resits tomorrow and then we'll be waiting for her result, but she's confident.

These GCSE science books by CGP are very accurate and concise. However, these do not contain the new information that can be found in the new GCSE Science specifications, meaning that they do not cover all the context.

This is my sons go to book for his AQA GCSE CHEMSITRY, this book pretty much alone has been getting him A*s in his all his chemistry mocks, I highly recommend this book and the Biology and Physics also for those doing triple science. The book came quickly and in great condition, all pages are clean and no dog eared pages, or marks of any sort. The front cover had a very slight mark which does not affect the book in anyway. The book is like new and came at a great price. Quite a bargain.

I bought this as part of my teacher training course, and have been using it throughout to both refresh my knowledge of Chemistry and give the students some extra information. The language is accessible to them, and they love the bright colours on the pages. A must for anyone doing AQA Science exams.

This was like my own personal chemistry bible all through my GCSE year. I absolutely 100 percent recommend any GCSE student (doing chemistry of course) gets this, even if only as a secondary resource--This book deals with the rather large number of topics in a friendly, responsive and engaging way. Providing not only excellent explanations; helping students learn, repeat and recall this key information. But also greatl aids in being able to understand it and so apply it to questions-an very important skill to any exam.

Having used this book for my chemistry GCSE along with some others I would have to warn people to stay away from it, especially if you are going for A / A*. I found the patronising tone very irritating and the content limited. Concepts are presented in far less detail than you need to know and the calculations are simplistic and unsuitable for those doing the higher tier. I would reccomend that you buy the AQA Science series, published by Nelson Thornes which is endorsed by the exam board and presents things clearly and concisly with the right amount of detail. I think I have those books to thank for my A*s across all three sciences in the first two modules - just finished the third. So if you want success in GCSE chemistry then do not use CGP except perhraps as a last minute revision checklist. My advice for this goes across the sciences, Physics and Biology aas well. Good Luck!
