Performing material from three Number 1 albums (Replicas, The Pleasure Principle and Telekon) against the spectacular backdrop of one of the largest sets ever built on a stage in the UK, this is Numan delivering on every level, songs that are still hugely influential 30 years later, pure pop star theatre and a light show as big as a city.

To anyone who might be interrested in one of the most unlikely top selling acts ever, here is Gary Numan at his absolute best, with no expense spared, and nothing but artistic content in mind. As a pinoeer for synth pop, it is hard to overrate his influence. Here you can experience why. Numan himself was (in his own words) uncomfortable with knowing very little about songwriting, and this was his goodbye to touring to get to the studio and concentrate on learning. Whatever he did, he couldn't help that after two more splendid albums, Dance and I, Assassin, he was artistically emptied, and after that, he only rarely wrote a good song. In his tours nowadays, a lot of the old details, especially in the bass playing, has been replaced with random grooving. A true genius in his time, but he has failed to recreate himself as the great artist he once was. And Numan, if you are reading this, your songwriting was flawless back then... nothing to learn, only to explore...

I was there at the time. Blown away, it was so loud that my black drainpipe jeans trembled with every bass note. I was partially deaf for several days after. The opening replicas riff was, and still is, spine tingling. Hindsight's a great thing, I doubt Gary knew that he was about to make a wrong move by turning his back on a magical formula, the andrognous android backed by moogs and prophets that was loved by millions and pre dated the ensuing electro musical trend. The strength of his music was its simplicity and originality. bare, stark, synth riffs, dripping with atmosphere and dark future imagery. The subsequent releases were cluttered and messy. An attempt to emulate a different sound, the jazz funk influenced sax laden Japan, roxy music style. Fretless bass and girl singers, fashionable in the 1980s. Garys strength was his individuality, he was so diffdrent from the pack. This wembley concert was a best of track listing from the glory years of a blade runner musician. Or should that be do androids dream of electric sheep?
Looking at the astronomical prices listed here, I guess this dvd is no longer availible, glad I bought it when I did. There is a glimpse of the new Dance album in here, the last classic Numan album.
Good on him for re inventing himself decades later, but for me 1978 to1981 were the golden years.

At last micromusic available on dvd!!!!if you were fortunate enough like me to attend this concert, you'll remember how good and how emotional it was.Gary had announced that this would be his last ever live set and he would cease touring.he has since openly admitted that this was probably his worse music career move and sales of his records slowly dwindled and he went out of the limelight.Fortunately Gary has now completely re-invented himself and has become one of the most influential artists, with his songs being covered by N.I.N and St.etienne to name but a few.
I owned the VHS for many years which has seen better days,so was really excited when this was released.its packaged in its original release cover.its been remastered and i must say its the best ive seen it look.ok granted it isn't HD.but it has that filmed on video feel which by no means a bad thing. what's wonderful about this is the Tim Summerhayes re-mastered audio which sounds stunning! All Gary's hits are included, cars.are friends electric, etc.a one hour interview with Gary is also included which is really informative.
If your a fan of Numans old or new music? This is an essential purchase.
Gary we salute you.
