Not sure what the previous reviewer was saying as CD1 includes the original master recordings-in other words the tracks that were on the original album. The packaging and "look" of this set is excellent-great photos and a quality presentation-however the content does leave a lot to be desired. Firstly the translation of the text is appalling and seems a bit stilted. Secondly and most importantly the quality of the recordings is average. Despite saying that they used the original tapes (RCA have confirmed that this is not the case) there is a lot of hiss and background noise. On the plus side there are some original radio ads which are great for completists.A couple of small points-why are amazon selling bootlegs? (the outtakes are still in copyright in Europe as the 50 year rule means 50 years from release not from recording) and why have MRS gone to all this effort only to leave out the Wooden Heart Outtakes!I would recommend this set only for the completist (like me!) otherwise wait for the official version that comes out later this year.

I love this soundtrack and always have.I still have my original mono,first-pressing copy. The songs were so beautifully recorded,Elvis and all giving their best, especially regarding "Doin' The Best That I Can." This package gives you visuals, info and studio chatter that puts you in the studio as the songs are created and this crucial point in The Kings career. An incredible piece....

I find the 100 book fasinating with so many unreleased behind the scene photos, informative text (even has Elvis's contract for the movie G.I.Blues)and more importantly, the sound is crystal clear. The master recordings themselves sound better than ever before and there are sounds i never heard before, great mastering. I am very impressed with the outakes that shows stage by stage shows how Elvis made those songs work and the studio banter is great. CRYSTAL CLEAR SOUND and like all Memphis releases great value.

I certainly do not agree with some of the other reviews of this 4 cd set as I found the sound to be really very good quality. I would have to offer some criticism around the information contained in the booklet though. It does not really tell the listener what is on offer here. Clearly it is not the "complete" GI Blues sessions but I am informed that is rather the original masters plus all the remaining outtakes that have not been officially released previously. No doubt they have been out before on bootlegs. The writing style in the booklet does seem rather strange almost as if it has been badly translated into English from another language? Nonetheless old El is in superb vocal form and I would recommend this set. For the life of me I couldn't really say what the difference was between the 2 versions of Blue Suede Shoes presented here (ok the running time is slightly longer on version 2 but that's about all). Finally I have to say that the photos of Juliet Prowse certainly do not flatter her. She must have been the most unappealing on the eye of all Elvis' female leads! Bit like Miss Piggy in fact! (Sorry to say)
