If you've heard it, you knows it! The best thing to come out of Newport this year, the draw-lovin' b-boys from beyond the Bristol Channel are finally releasing an album, brilliantly titled Greatest Hits. They are literally dripping in council estate chic, with more Argos gold and attitude than Vicky Pollard. The beats and rhymes are witty and Welsh, and what I've heard has made me laugh more than a half of high grade green (which seems to be largely the source of their inspiration anyway). If this album is anything less than safe as f*ck I will damage myself. Remember kids, guns don't kill people, rappers do!

The Goldie Lookin Chain album is finally here for your listening pleasure - and every track will have you cracking up as they go through lyrics such as 'your mothers got a short dress on that sometimes exposes the tip of her dong.' GLC have been causing a bit of a stir on the underground scene for quitew a while now, playing shows in smaller venues but they are now gracing the mainstream and what better way could have done it than with the instantly catchy tune of 'Guns dont kill people, rappers do.' GLC truly are a class act and this 'Greatest Hits' album will no doubt be one of the albums of the year. Some people are calling them the new Darkness, otheres a Welsh Wu Tang - whatever you wish to call them they will sure put a smile on your face and this CD will be in your player for months to come.

Once in a blue moon a record like this one comes along and absolutely redefines and resurges popular music as we know it. The last one was Dire Straits' "rothers In Arms" back in the mid Eighties so this slab of beauty has been a long time coming. From beginning to end listening to this record is the aural equivalent of swimming through blue quicksilver clouds at the speed of an amphetamine sulphate fuelled Superman. The lyrics are pure poetry with the rhyming skills of Shelley spiked with the sharpest wit of an ultramodern Oscar Wilde. GLC's street articulacy is as relevant today as NWA's cussing and expletive shoutings back in the early Nineties and as potent as Public Enemy's Nation of Millions. As well as its modern relevance its art is also to be seriously considered. Its innovation and sheer avant garde echoes the Velvet Underground circa Sister Ray (no coincidence that there's a Welsh influence on both). This is bona fide classic. And it's funny too.

Welsh rap with class, style and panache! Total comedy, this will make you laugh sooo hard. They take the mick out of all that is rap. Check out 'self-suicide', it is a hilarious track.
The Newport boys are quality, here are a few top quotes from some of their tracks;
"...I smokes more draw than your average rasta, I'm now Newport's first draw ambassador..."
"Back in the 'port stacking up your bong, having a fxcking laugh and still signing on, I went to pick up a curry and they saw my Capri, I paid them in draw and the keema now was free..."
If you only listen to one CD this year, make it this one. You won't regret it..... You knows it!

Ive never written a review before but i felt so enraged by the stupidity of grahams246 review i had to reply. I'm guessing that this guy has only heard 'guns dont kill people' on the radio, and assumes that this album is about blasting hip-hop. It's not, its a COMEDY album. Only 'Guns dont kill people' has any mention of hip-hop, and had it occured to you it may be poking fun at the stupidity of politicians for blaming gun violence on hip-hop culture?. As for attacking the other reviewers taste, suggesting they wouldn't know hip-hip, im guessing they brought this album for the COMEDY value of the lyrics, not because they listen to Hip-hop.
As for the album, its very funny. Its certainly not subtle or clever, but its comedic value cannot be doubted. I've been listening to this on my mp3 player for a while now, and i cant help giggling. I still hear new lyrics everytime a listen. If you want a laugh, pick this album up.

Having grown up on a Newport council estate ( and thankfully escaped ) I can fully appreciate the humour in this album. When I first heard it I didn't realise it would have nationwide appeal as there seem to be a lot of 'in-jokes' but obviously I was wrong! The highlights of the album for me are 'Soapbar' and 'You know I loves you' which bring back happy memories of my teenage years ( in those days if someone bought you a bag of chips and an item of 'jewellery' from Elizabeth Duke you'd be well chuffed ). If you want hip-hop forget it. If you want a laugh then buy it, buy it, buy it!

When I first heard of GLC , I immediately thought " no-mark dossers , wasters just being tossers"... BUT listening to this album is wonderful... The humour behind the tales is side-splittingly superb... Every track tells how these lads look at life... its a reflection of how this political system we live in , really casts aside everyone except those with privelege and connections... "who gives a toss about the ordinary man/youth in the street ? were allright", is the attitude of todays career politicians...
Good to see that these lads have made something out of being in a really crap place. Well done
