CD Dean Martin - Robbie Williams - Ewan Mcgregor+++
Fans of the 1998 film Little Voice and the play on which it was based will be thrilled to learn that the actor/singer/impressionist Jane Horrocks has finally preserved her vocal impersonations on to CD. But have no fear, this is not simply Celebrity Stars in their Eyes, rather Horrocks takes on a number of diverse divas, namely Billie Holiday, Shirley Bassey, Marilyn Monroe, Judy Garland and Marlene Dietrich, and performs songs that they themselves never actually recorded. So, we get Holiday singing "Crazy", Bassey doing a rousing "Too Close for Comfort" and from Garland a poignant "It Was a Very Good Year". The five all "appear" together in the opening track, Horrocks' witty version of "Hello Dolly". And if all that wasn't enough, there are also duos with Robbie Williams, Dean Martin and Horrocks' Little Voice co-star Ewan McGregor. Overall a great but, at just over 45 minutes, too short collection. --Rebecca Agnew

When I saw Jane's guest spot on "Parkinson," I was so knocked out by her performance that I had to make this my first amazon.co.uk purchase. Kudos to the New York-based big band for their fine backing, and to Leo Green for his wonderful arrangements.
Jane is "Absolutely Fabulous" in my book, and I hope that she does another album in the near future!!!
I've probably had a problem with impressionists as a species since childhood - the awful old days of Mike Yarwood on Saturday night British TV - that might be what it is. Who knows? Anyway - the point is this is a terrific album (which is where I started), the version of Just in Time for example is a real heart-stopper, and it can't be faulted musically. I just need to know more about what Jane can do when she's not being someone else!
