An unexpected treat!! An unconventional thriller which pits two assassins in a tug of war between a girl and dodging bullits! There are some great set pieces as balletic and electrfying as anything I have seem by John Woo,......but also some great acting and strong characterisation. The main leads create interesting personas,...a movie obssessed assassin who kills while inspired by action greats like Terminater 2 and Leon! The other a more reserved and less showy assassin,...with that an ordinary girl mixed in a tug of war between these two makes for stunning moments!
Watch it!!,.........a stunning THRILLER!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Wild and Crazy 16 Sept. 2009

I saw the movie before I bought it, but I liked it so much that I knew I'd want to see it more than once. The movie will remind you of Assassins which I thought was a pretty good movie since I'm not a fan of either star. Fulltime Killer is about two assassins, one on top and the other struggling to out do him. One has finesse and the other--showmanship. Yes, the movies are very similar. Yes, there is also a girl. Why watch this over the American movie? I don't know. Watch both. Andy Lau gives a superb performance as Lok, the killer with showmanship who wants so badly to be on top of the game, to get the really good paying hits. I had never seen Japanese actor, Takashi Sorimachi before. After this, I wanted to see what else he could do. As O, the top rated assassin in Hong Kong, who lives in isolation, living for work and only watching his housekeeper clean his apartment from across the street, he keeps his cool even when things begin to go awry. The two personalities are fun to watch as they start to crack once they begin to come into contact with one another. Simon Yam also gives a good performance as the cop who is out to catch them--at any cost. There are really no surprises, but it's a fun story full of great actions sequences and literally fireworks. And, hey, it's Johnny To. He delivers.

Early Johnny To, but already you can witness the true heir to Melville blossoming. The plot is lumpy, but To makes it work. Probably good to screen Melville's Samauri and Un Flic first (both starring Delon) so you can get the depth of this film's ideas. Exile and Vengeance are better and smoother, but this is the pencil sketch that made them possible. Un chapeau, Mr. To.

I SAW THE AMERICAN VERSION WITH ANTONIO BANDERAS AND SLY STALLONE YEARS AGO. THAT MOVIE WAS OK, BUT, THE HK VERSION OF IT HAS MORE STYLE, FLAIR AND CHARISMA. ANDY LAU ACTED HIS PART AS TOK TO THE "T". THE MAN OOZED SEXINESS. AND O, TAKASHI, REALLY MADE THE EMOTIONAL PART OF HIS CHARACTER CONVINCING. BESIDES THE VIOLENCE AND MAYHEM, THE STORYLINE WAS WELL WRITTEN (ALTHOUGH A REMAKE), AND THE ACTION WAS NON-STOP. I RATE THIS MOVIE ALONG THE LINES OF JAMES CAGNEY'S PUBLIC ENEMY.

4.0 out of 5 stars Pleasant surprise 25 May 2013

An Asian version of the Mechanic or Assassins sort of. More than enough action if you enjoy gun play. There was nothing complicated about this story which made it easy to follow. What I also liked was the underlying story which tries to explain why some people become killers.
