Lots of wit, banter, hot stuff and fun plus drama and a moderate amount of angst. Nice ending leading into the next book. Really good series.
However, the farther into the story I got the better it got and the more we learned about the actual characters themselves. The storylines then became quite different from then on. There were also points where the book would go from two weeks to three weeks then back to weeks as to how long it'd been since she'd been out of the hospital so that left me feeling a bit confused and wondering what was going on at points.
While I'm sure others found the bedroom scenes steamy, I found them lacking and almost dull at times as they were once again quite similar to the first story. Then again the dirtier and more detailed the better in my world.
All in all I would say it was a 4 star book and hope the next one is much different in terms of plotline and character development.
I received a free copy of this book to read and review for Wicked Reads.
I wasn't sure what way Slade was going to come across since in the first book he seemed all about himself. There were times in this book where I seriously would have loved to be able to cause Slade physical harm but I have to say he is my favourite at the minute. Slade was such a womaniser but when he met Jessica his opinions changed and he wanted to see where he could go with her but she was with another man and even though he knew there was trouble there he just couldn't do anymore than he had. I loved the way he just demanded "Mouth" when he wanted Jessica to kiss him, I thought that was super hot and I have to admit he wormed his way straight into my heart.
I have to say I loved Jessica, even though she had a craptastic time with her boyfriend of five years she still picked herself up and dusted herself off. I really enjoyed the dynamic of her relationship with Slade, she wasn't a pushover but wasn't a raging bitch either.
This series is really surprising me, it has got me in it's clutches now and I don't think its going to let go anytime soon. I am loving Sidney's writing style too as even though its written in the third person its still in each of their points of view. Hopefully the rest of the books with keep me as enthralled as the first two.
Told from dual third person points of view the storyline focuses on Jessica’s recovery following a near fatal beating by her ex boyfriend Dennis Stravos. Slade, always the protector, finds himself falling for Jessica ensuring her recovery is under his care-at his home- and in his bed. What ensues is a developing friendship that grows into something more but Slade’s ‘harem’ of women throws Jessica’s emotions into a frenzy; jealousy, betrayal, insecurity and threats against the people she loves, follow Jessica from work to home. In order to protect everyone, Jessica knows it is time to move back home. Breaking Slade’s heart is the only way to protect the man with whom she has fallen in love.
The relationship between Jessica and Slade is a friends to lovers storyline; their attraction to one another is immediate but Slade’s reputation with the ladies precedes his introduction to Jessica and she is unsure about any stable relationship with a man whose one night stands are many. The $ex scenes are captivating, provocative and intense-Slade knows how to please a woman in bed. There is plenty of push and pull throughout the story as Jessica must consider the future-with or without the man that she loves.Read more ›
