Product Description

Product Description

The XF1 successfully extends the X Series range of digital cameras to a much wider audience thanks to its chic good looks and sophisticated feature line-up. Its stunning retro body includes a newly-developed f/1.8 FUJINON lens and a 2/3-inch EXR-CMOS sensor for the superior image quality, feel, and ease-of-use people have come to expect from Fujifilm's X series. You can take it anywhere with you, allowing you to shoot high-quality photos whenever you feel the urge. In terms of appeal, the XF1 functions equally well as an upgrade to a compact camera or as a second, 'back-up' camera for the more advanced photographer.

Not working anymore - After 1 year of use, got overexposed shots (totally washed out / white pictures) every single time using the telephoto/zoom. Then, got an error message showing up on screen at power on, forbidding any pictures to be taken.

Now, I can simply bin it, as out of warranty and repairs cost more than actual value of the camera.

BTW, this is a known issue now, but Fuji denies it :D

One word: SHAME

Straight to the point....
First: The instructions are in Italian (You can download an English version from the Fuji website)
Second: You'll need a Euro to UK plug adapter. .
Third: The battery has to be charged out of the camera. Strange, I know but it means you can take with you another back up battery already charged.

Now .....This camera is expensive for a compact. You've probably looked at a few with higher Megapixels and different features. I did too. I bought a Panasonic Lumix and was really shocked at how bad the image quality was and I'm a huge Panasonic fan
So, after a lot of searching, I found this Fuji.
What's the fuss, right? Well, the picture quality of this camera is astonishing. Really pin sharp. Depth, clarity and vivid images that leap off the screen. It has several modes or you can just leave on auto and it does it for you.
Landscape, panoramic, portrait, sports plus there is a very useful macro feature. Meaning you can take close up pictures (3cm, I think) of flowers etc.
You have a manual optical zoom which is excellent plus a digital zoom.

Basically, it looks very vintage but has the most up to date features. Most importantly, a photo is a memory captured. Do you want a high quality, clear and vivid photo for that memory ? Then for the money, this is an incredibly well performing camera and will achieve superb results.

The camera is 1 month out of warranty and has developed a fault which causes all the photos to be really washed out and overexposed, occasionally it will display the message "lens control error"
Searching the internet reveals this is not an isolated incident, sadly as its out of warranty Fuji do not want to know and their repair estimate was higher than the cost of the camera.

Its a shame as it took quite good shots for a pocket camera when it was working.

I would advise buyers to look elsewhere as this purchase is not worth the risk.

Avoid this camera at all costs - after 12 months it started showing the Lens Control Error problem . Just type in Fujifilm xf1 Lens Control error into your browsers search engine and see how common this fault is . It would appear to be a design fault with the number of cameras affected . A fault which Fugifilm appears not to acknowledge. So no more Fujifilm cameras for me

I love photography and have an excellent SLR, but often reluctant to take it on holiday/away as it is a) large and bulky, with lenses and b) expensive - so may get nicked! As I like to carry a digital compact in my bag, I wanted something that would be better than a standard digital compact, preferably almost as good in picture quality as the SLR - and loved the look and feel of this camera. Real retro look, solid, metal body, great feel - substantial yet small enough tofit neatly in small handbag. Great picture quality with wide variety of specialised settings (unfortuantely I left the majual at home before going away, so relied on a few simpler settings and forgot how to do the panoramas) ; great ability to take decent shots at night or in low-light conditions; good for action; clear bright pictures, good colour and exposure, fine detail; good video. Absolutely lovely camera to have, I even found the unusual start up (no on-off switche, you turn the lens and pull it out and twist it to use) very easy and convenient in no time at all. Good battery life, good charger provided. Very happy with it!

For the money this is a great little camera, the only problem I have encountered so far is that it has so many features you need a degree in technology to understand them all (I am one of those people that cannot be bothered to read and digest manuals). The ability to take RAW images is a real plus and the image stabilisation system works very well. The wide end of the zoom being 25mm is very useful, being somewhat wider than the average compact camera in this price bracket, and the f1.8 lens makes hand held low light shooting more viable when coupled with the image stabilisation. Some may be put off by the fact that this is not a "super-zoom", but it is horses for courses, how often do you actually need more than the 100mm that this camera extends to? The quality of images from the XF1 is superb, even in idiot proof mode (auto settings), I take photos for a living and own several Nikon DSLR's plus a Fuji DSLR and although I wouldn't use the XF1 for my work, I bought it to use on a trip to Dubai and Thailand I will be going on in a couple of months, the image quality from this little camera would give the DSLR's a run for their money. It is a nice looking little camera aswell and seems well built and quite rugged. Like any other camera, there are a few niggles, I have yet to use or own a camera that hasn't, my niggles being that it doesn't have a viewfinder (having taken photographs all of my working life I find it strange to have to compose a picture by looking at a screen on the back of the camera), and secondly I do find the controls a bit small and fiddly. That said, I would recommend this camera to anyone that wants great quality images taken in almost any situation at an affordable cost.
