Real Time Viewfinder
With a magnification of 0.65x*5 and a display lag time of just 0.005sec.*6 the X30 has an exceptionally large and fast viewfinder. It offers a clear, high-definition Live View thanks to the 2.36M-dot organic EL electronic viewfinder and dedicated lens. Display time lag is the shortest in the world at 0.005 seconds*1.
Visibility has been improved by automatically controlling finder brightness according to the ambient light levels.
The Live View display can also be set to the 'Preview Pic. Effect' function to reflect shooting conditions or offer a natural view close to what is seen with the naked eye, while the viewfinder's eye sensor will also automatically switch the visible information when the camera is positioned vertically; something that was not possible with the previous model's optical viewfinder.
A control ring positioned behind the manual zoom control allows the immediate change of aperture settings and shutter speed while fine-tuning composition. Functions such as ISO sensitivity, film simulation, white balance and continuous shooting can be assigned by pushing the control ring setting button at the front. Two top-plate dials and six function buttons positioned on the back of the body also offer fast access to regularly-used features for a more instinctive operation, while the 3.0-inch 920K-dot premium clear LCD monitor can be tilted so shooting can be enjoyed from any angle.
Fujifilm's image quality has been cultivated through the development of photographic films over the past 80 years and helps to reproduce warm skin tones, bright blue skies and rich green trees, just as photographers remember the scene. The X30 features the 'CLASSIC CHROME' film simulation mode, which delivers muted tones and deep colour reproduction. Users can choose from ten different modes that simulate the effects of traditional Fujifilm films. These include colour reversal film effects (Velvia / PROVIA / ASTIA/CLASSIC CHROME), professional colour negative film (PRO Neg.Std / PRO Neg.Hi), monochrome filters (MONOCHROME, Ye filter, R filter and G filter) and SEPIA.
Enhanced Wi-Fi Features
The free FUJIFILM Camera Remote application and Wireless Communication function allows users to remotely shoot images from smartphones and tablets. The remote shooting Wireless app functions include Touch AF, shutter release for stills and movies, shutter speed, aperture, exposure compensation, ISO sensitivity, film simulation modes, white balance, macro, timer and flash. The X30 also allows for instant transfer and location tagging of images via your smartphones and tablets*7. Wi-Fi transfer*8 also enables wireless backup of the data in the camera onto the computer*9.

Update: I have a replacement X30 and it works great. I actually think it was my scan disk pro memory card which was faulty as it freezes this camera up also. Suffice to say I will be returning the memory card this time and not the camera.
I chose this camera as it has a view finder- I prefer to have this option as looking at a screen on a sunny day is next to impossible. This was the only digital camera at this price with a view finder.
I was a bit hesitant at first as having had an X10, skipped the X20, and come to this, to find no optical viewfinder (I'm old school).
But this feature is more than amply taken care of with the EVF, which gives so much information, also handy is the eye detector, so that people like me that have a penchant to use a viewfinder can have thje viewfinder switch on ONLY when the eye nears the viewfinder reticle.
This of course can be changed in settings, of which there are hundreds.
The only down side is that the continuous focus does still hunt a bit, especially in darker periods, get used to using a larger f stop and use the single auto focus (it was just laziness on my part not to bother).
This will satisfy the most ardent manual camera user, I'm sure.
You have likely read many of the online reviews already.
I've kept jumping between SLRs and Enthusiasts compacts for years, I think I've finally found the right camera.
I'm looking forward to many years with it.
