From the Manufacturer
Highly regarded for their powerful optical zoom lenses, quick responses, ease-of-use and compact nature; FUJIFILM's extensive range of bridge cameras are an excellent choice.
Powerful Optical zoom and Image Stabilisation
The FinePix S4800 bridge camera is equipped with a powerful 30× (24-720mm equivalent) FUJINON optical zoom and there's no need to worry about blurry images from camera shake or subject movement, as the S4800 is armed with OIS (sensor shift image stabilisation). Furthermore, on the other end of the scale, and for the more artistic amongst us, great results can be achieved with the clever Super Macro mode which gets you as close as 2cm to your subject.
High quality images and a super speedy response time
The S4800 camera houses a powerful 16 megapixel CCD sensor that captures even the finest details. Plus with the choice of six different scene types, Scene Recognition Auto mode can cleverly recognise the subject you're shooting, and decide on the settings required. Offering autofocus speeds as fast as 0.3 seconds* and start-up times of 1.3 seconds* the S4800 will give you responsive, hassle-free photography.
Great videos at the touch of a button
Record HD video 720p/30fps in 16:9 format, then share your memories with friends and family on the big screen, using the mini HDMI connector**. What's more with the clever Video Scene Recognition feature and the dedicated Video Recording button, you can leave the camcorder at home, and capture some great spur-of-the-moment footage!
Take your photography to the next level
This highly specified bridge camera comes with a whole host of features to make your photography more enjoyable, such as a mode dial for selecting P, S, A, and M modes and a large 3inch LCD screen, for framing and viewing pictures. Features such as Instant Zoom, which shows your composition area as well as the area outside the frame, and Individual Shutter 3D, which creates 3D pictures by merging 2 images, provide an interesting twist for your photos. Not forgetting features such as the Date Stamp, which allows you record the date the photo was taken, and the 320 shot, 4×AA alkaline batteries, which allow you to go on long trips without worrying about battery life.

There is no viewfinder on this camera which is a shame as I do think that they still have a place in digital cameras, lcd screens are good but not always ideal. However it does cope with bright light ok. I tried using it in direct sunlight which was fairly strong and was still able to see what was been displayed on screen.
You have a choice of it been a point and shoot camera or you can manually set various things such as exposer, white balance, ISO and so on. It also has a very respectable optical zoom as well as a digital zoom. The digital zoom is switched off by default but you can easily change this and then it gives a total zoom of 216x. I must admit that I have not tried taking a photo zoomed in to the full 216 though. Personally I think that would probably turn out awful. As digital is nowhere near as good as optical zoom. I have taken a couple of photos at full optical zoom which is 30x and it delivered good results.
It is a very responsive camera and has a slide on/off button on the camera. Remembering to take the lens cap off before switching on it is ready to take a photo in around 1 second of sliding the power on button to actually powering up and been ready to capture a shot. What I particually like is the fact that it uses AA batteries! That was a big thing for me. I very nearly purchased a Cannon Camera but then realised that it used a proprietary battery. I don't like those batteries personally because I find they cost a lot more when they need replacing or buying a spare. The battery for the Cannon camera I nearly purchased would have cost me around the £40 mark, if I had wanted to buy an original battery as a spare depending on where it was purchased from. Yet I got a full set of 4 good high power rechargeable AA batteries for S4800 for just £8 including delivery. Not only are AA batteries cheaper they are also more widely available.
I don't think the wheel on the top of the camera that selects the different programs is that self explanatory but if you look at the screen it will tell you would you have selected and what it does. You can however turn this information off if you wanted to.
Personally I am pleased with my purchase, and have no regrets about buying it. This is a good camera that not only looks and feels good but also delivers on performance at a very decent price.
