Product Description

Product Description

The Frostfire Mooncode 1556 portable and wall-mounted key storage security lock is the ideal way to keep your valuables secure--wherever you are and whatever you may be doing. This strong, heavy safe is secured by a combination lock and features a large internal space, measuring 10 by 7 by 2.8 cm, in which you can store keys, credit cards or other valuable items. It is well-suited to any situation where several people need access to keys--all that you need to do is provide the authorised person with the combination to open the lock. Examples where the key safe is perfect are when family members return to the car at different times, or if you need to hide your house keys for house sitters, holiday renters, cleaners and contractors. It is also ideal for all outdoor activities, such as surfing, diving, windsurfing, walking, canoeing and camping.

The body of the safe is made from zinc alloy and the shackle is made from hardened iron steel. The key safe can be fixed to a wall, using the supplied screws, or it can be taken from place to place--the shackle allows the safe to be secured to a fixed object in your car or the outdoors.

The exterior of the Frostfire Mooncode 1556 portable and wall-mounted key storage security lock measures 18 by 8 by 3.1 cm.

Bought to screw securely onto an outside wall around back of my house to allow us to hide keys if we lock ourselves out or we have visitors arriving and need access inside without hiding keys under a wheelie bin !
Can be used with steel hook but in fairness doub't we'll ever use this feature.
Lock itself has a rubber case that goes over the metal framework to keep it weather tight, seeems very strong and using the number dial is childs play. Have securely screwed it to the wall (very strong) and left several keys inside it - just in case. Wish I'd have ordered one of these years ago as I'm sure it will prove itself money well spent in the long run. My son, now uses it pretty much everyday as doen't like carrying keys.
So far, so good - thoroughly recommend if you have a similar need as mine !

I bought this in 2013 and started using it by end of 2013.
    -Easy setup and sturdy
    -Simple to change password/code

It was being used everyday at an office as different members of staff need open office everyday depending on who comes early so this looked like a good solution to problem instead of giving a key to all early comers.
I was happy with it so I bought another one in 3rd quarter of 2014 for my other use. I am ruing that decision!

It worked well for about a year and then one fine day it doesn't want to open. Tried everything...all previous passwords but it just doesn't open! So my key is stuck in the box and box uselessly is hanging up on that wall.

Its been 4 months since I contacted Frosfire through their website frostfire . co .uk and asked for help on how to reset or open such lock. They have not responded at all.
I cannot recommend a product to anyone which is NOT backed by its manufacturer. I did not expected money back or on the door service from Frostfire but I expected at least some reply on possible solutions.

NOT RECOMMENDED. You cannot rely on it if you are locked out!

As a disabled person and having carers call on a daily basis this keysafe has been a godsend. There are two negatives with though. The keys are difficult to see under artificial lighting, ie street lighting. Secondly, when heavy rain is directed on it then the base retains water and can rust keys if not dried out asap. Other than that it is excellent value for money.

So far this key safe seems to be the perfect solution to the problem of storing a spare set of keys in a safe, accessible place in case of an emergency or if wanting to allow access to my property whilst I am not there.

Included with the key safe is everything that you need to fix it to a suitable wall/structure or attach it to a post or similar (1st photo). In the package you get:

    • Mooncode key storage safe with removable shackle
    • Instruction card
    • screws and wall plugs
    • Adhesive backed foam pad
    • Rubber backing pad

The safe itself is made from a zinc alloy and feels both weighty and strong whilst the removable shackle is made of hardened steel so should be very secure. Mounting the safe on a wall just requires the drilling of four holes and then, using the wall plugs and screws provided, it is a straightforward process to fix it in position - remember to put the rubber backing pad that is provided on the safe before fixing as this covers the holes for the shackles and, hopefully, makes the safe weathertight (I haven't had the opportunity to verify this as yet as the weather has been pretty good recently). Setting the security code on the combination lock is very simple and takes about 30 seconds to do. The space inside the safe is plenty big enough for my needs and I would imagine that it would be for most people, I have included a photo of my key ring with attached keys to give an idea of the space available (there was ample room for these keys as can be seen).

There was only one thing that I did not like about this product and that was the awful plastic packaging that it comes in - the sort that needs cutting off. Other than this, and based on my experience so far, I can only say that this appears to be a robust, well made product that should prove its worth time and again.

    • I was provided with this product in exchange for an honest, unbiased review.

This is exactly what I was looking for. Big enough to take a bunch of keys of various sizes, and I have also bought one for locking to the car when I need to (have become used to leaving the keys on top of the wheels, which is bad bad bad). Very easy to mount and set code. Perfect (and a wee bit better than the others I think).

Overall this seems a good and heavy duty product. Drawbacks are, as noted by others:

*the numbers are hard to read even in good light and
*the screws and rawlplugs included seem quite lightweight for the job. The plugs are 27mm and the screws 33mm including the domed head.

The shackle, for portable use, has a clear plastic sleeve around it to protect what it clips round, also a plastic removeable hinged inner collar: presumably for the same purpose and for fitting round a smaller circumference item and to reduce the oportunity for levering.
If you screw the safe permanently to a wall, there's a shaped rubber pad which fits behind it and covers the top, complete with rubber bungs which fill the holes left where you've removed the shackle, so water shouldn't get in.
I think we will probably replace the provided screws and rawlplugs with something more substantial and longer.
