Product Description

Product Description

Dylan (Justin Timberlake) is done with relationships. Jamie (Mila Kunis) decides to stop buying into the Hollywood clichés of true love. When the two become friends they decide to try something new and take advantage of their mutual attraction – but without any emotional attachment. Physical pleasure without the entanglements. Sounds easy enough for two logical adults, right? Not so much. They soon realize romantic comedy stereotypes might exist for a reason.

From Amazon.co.uk

At a time when mainstream comedy has been overtaken by rambling, pleasingly sloppy Judd Apatow-type improv-fests, director Will Gluck has been quietly doing his part to remind folks that sticking to the script and having a destination in mind can be fun, too. Much like his earlier Easy A, Friends with Benefits is a clever, just-this-side-of-painfully-hip relationship comedy that knows when to linger over a punch line and when not to break stride. A few minor speed bumps aside (filmmakers: can we can it with the musical montages, already?), it goes down extremely easy. The story in a nutshell: frustrated by the lack of viable dating options in their vicinity, two platonic friends (Mila Kunis and Justin Timberlake) decide to embark on a casual, no-strings-attached physical relationship. However, as a briefly glimpsed clip from Bob & Carol & Ted & Alice foreshadows, things don't stay simple for very long. As opposed to the standard PG-13 rom com, things get surprisingly raunchy here, but organically so, with the slight snafus and briefly major embarrassments that should ring true to most relationship veterans. As in Easy A, Gluck has assembled a fantastically game supporting cast, including Woody Harrelson, Jenna Elfman, and especially the great Richard Jenkins and Patricia Clarkson as two vastly different parental figures, but it's really the two leads' show. Whether arguing the virtues of the band Kriss Kross or engaging in activities unprintable on an all-ages website, Timberlake and Kunis display the snappy back-and-forth of a classic cinematic coupling. When they're cooking, you don't want to be anywhere else. --Andrew Wright

I'm going to assume that we all know by now that this is a film that eventually finishes with a fairly typical rom-com ending. But come on, if you seriously think that it shouldn't end this way, ask yourself how you would rather it ended. It is the journey that this film takes getting there that makes this such an enjoyable flick.
The premise is simple - Dylan (Justin Timberlake) and Jamie (Mila Kunis) decide that adding sex to their relationship is a great idea because its just physical. Eventually, they decide mutually to stop but remain friends and as the film progresses further we get to know them, and their families, and all their problems.
The fact is that there are not many movies I have enjoyed more than this, and this romcom just felt streets ahead of many others I have watched - the acting is good and it was something that a lot of romcoms aren't - it was very funny. Timberlake held his own with Kunis, and the supporting cast of Woody Harrelson (Tommy, the gay GQ sports editor), Patricia Clarkson (Lorna, Jamie's mum) and Richard Jenkins, who plays Dylan's father, provided some really good scenes (my favourite being the scenes between Dylan and his dad).
The sex scenes were well written, well acted, and well directed, managing to be fairly raunchy without going over the top. The dialogue was also really well written, and it was fun to watch Kunis and Timberlake play off eachother throughout the movie. Highly recommended.

I'm not a rom-com fan, so I didn't have high hopes for this movie but I was pleasantly surprised to find it was one of the best movies I've seen in quite some time.

The formula is a familiar one - boy meets girl, both are losers in love (despite being incredibly attractive!), Initially they are just friends, but this soon turns into friends with (sexual) benefits and of course it'll surprise no one that that soon turns into love, much to the surprise of them both. None of this is particularly surprising and the predictable nature of it is usually why I dislike rom-coms but what makes this one different is the comedy - it's really very good! Throughout the movie there's a scattering of genius comedy moments.

The lead characters (Timberlake & Kunis) are both very well developed and unlike most rom-coms it doesn't just focus on their love life, it focuses on their families and what makes them tick psychologically. The script is witting, funny and charming and you end up loving both characters by the end of the movie. Throw in a great supporting cast, with the likes of Woody Harrelson, a sports writer with a fixation on all things gay and the casting is just great.

Another thing worthy of a mention is the great soundtrack - there's some great songs used throughout the movie (Semisonic - Closing time etc) which really make it what it is.

For once I agree with one of the quotations of the box - this one really is "Sexy. Funny. Clever" - give it a go!

Yes I found this film very funny and well acted, 2 actors I had never seen before. I had seen the film on TV and decided I should add it to my collection. You always seem to miss something in the original showing on TV. I would recommend this film but it should be remembered that it should really be rated as not suitable for young children.

Don,t expect anything original in this story the film has been made to a formulae, you can see the outcome of every scene before it happens and a little more thought in the construction of the story and a little less explicit sex would have resulted in a better tale of relationships. Oh and I quite forgot, somebody should have given the director a shake now and again to wake him up and remind him he had a job to do.

This film is virtually the same as No Strings Attached, expect this is one of those Hollywood films, which takes the mickey out of Hollywood films, despite both the characters sitting on the Hollywood sign. Basically a couple decide to have sex with no strings attached, the guy is cool, with a cool job and the girl has issuses with her mum and relationships. Not a bad film but not original.

Perhaps my disliking of Justin Timberlake impacted on how I perceived this film but the story line was pretty average and the acting wasn't great. There was nothing outstanding about this film but it is still a pretty good chick flick.

Didn't enjoy this film. Sat down to watch it with a group of girlfriends (chick flick night), within 10 minutes we'd turned the film off and put "dirty dancing" on instead.....much better! We just couldn't get into this movie at all and the feeling was completely mutual between the 10 of us.

My favourite film! Now added to my collection of other good films. Very pleased with the time of the delivery. Disk wasn't too badly scratched. Played fine. Watched it more than once now. And all for a decent price. Very pleased. Thanks again
