I've been making stuff for as long as I can remember. In fact I come form a long line of stuff makers. So it was only natural that I should get a degree in stuff making, better known as a Bachelor of Fine Arts and spend the whole of my adult life so far creating. Though I started out as a print maker, I've been working exclusively in textiles for almost 18 years. Crafting something with simple materials that then goes on to have a life of its own is truly magical. I'm so happy to have the opportunity to share that magic with others.

This book has all the information needed for a beginner to start quilting and it contains plenty of projects for someone who is more experienced. It inspires the reader to be creative with colour. The author's sewing is very eyecatching and contemporary: she uses bright colours in a very bold way. In summary, a very good book and worth having.

Interesting variety of projects

I brought this book based on the cover. It did not disappoint in content. It's full of some fantastic ideas and colourful creations to keep you going. However, what does let the book down is the finishing on the projects shown. This is such a shame as it cheapens it. Some of the quilts have not been cut straight before binding. You can clearly see that the tension on the sewing machine was not right when they did their free motion quilting as the stitches are a mess. Lastly, the decorative stitching used on some borders is all different lengths.

But do not let this put you off! It is a good book, it just needs better pictured

I absolutely love Malka's approach to colour and printing and it's good to see fresh approaches to colour combining and classic quilting patterns. It's one of a number of books that I've bought on the back of American blogger reviews, but sadly have felt slightly "cheated" at the lack of advanced content and more challenging projects, which is why I couldn't give this a 5 star rating. Most of them are aimed at people who have never sewn anything. In some ways I can understand that, as there has been a recent surge of interest in crafting and sewing. The downside of this is that as an "intermediate" or "advanced" sewer you find these books rehash a lot of old ground so only a portion of the book is useful.

So, if you are new to quilting and don't want to tackle something as large as a quilt then this will probably be an excellent book, but if you are an experienced quilter who prefers to make quilts rather than coasters and coin purses, then this is only worth buying if you want to feast your eyes on Malka's colour aesthetic. Although there are some quilting projects in there. I am keeping the book for that reason, and may try to translate those designs to larger projects, which the author does recommend.

It's one of those books that I hope there will be a more advanced follow up to, unfortunately as it is, it just covered way too much stuff that I have already seen in dozens of other books, but I guess that's partly my problem for having too many quilt books!

I love this book, it gives you a lot of ideas to make gifts and funny, fresh things for you self. There is a nice and easy sewing machine cover, round coasters, small coin purses, some funny pot holders and colorful quilts. The book will inspire me to make all those things. I strongly recomend this book to all of you who like small and easy sewing in colorful fabrics. The book has a lot of photos, and the discription for each project is easy to understand.

This book is a feast of colour for the eyes with gorgeous contemporary quilting ideas. It's a brilliant book to dip into and for inspiration. From my point of view as a relative novice I had to get help from a more experienced friend on some aspects of the instructions. I would have liked more photos of the actual assembly process as opposed to diagrams and written instructions. That said, I'm really happy with the book and it will definitely challenge me but the end creations are worth it. The cover pictures on the book say it all really.
