About the Author
Meera Sodha is the Guardian's 'New Vegan' columnist and author of Fresh India, which won the Observer Food Monthly Best New Cookbook Award 2017. In 2018 she was given The Guild of Food Writers 'Cookery Writing Award' and named the Fortnum & Mason Cookery Writer of the Year for her work in the Guardian. Well written, clear instructions, with timings where appropriate & the anecdotes about each recipe are entertaining & amusing.
I will certainly be making a lot more food from this book over the coming months
The book isn't trying to replace meat, in any way, but just seems to put together some substantial vegetarian recipes that you could easily substitute meat into, if you so wished, however we've really enjoyed all the veggie options we've tried to date. Biggest win, so far, have been the mushroom and chestnut samosa that taste 'meatier' than the meat versions we've tried making in the past and packed with bags of flavour.
Since we bought it, the book has been in use so much that I've gifted another couple of copies to friends and picked up the meat book.
This book is a wonderful introduction to Indian cookery, practical, with sensible and accessible ingredients, well written and the recipes really are delicious and nothing like the tasteless, over spiced food you seem to get in the majority of the UK restaurants.
I enjoyed the book so much I bought her other book "Made in India" and that's excellent too.
