Gina Gardener's first and only album remains a classic in the genre of Hi-NRG and camp disco-pop. There are some pretty incredible tracks on offer here: namely 'Ooh Ahh ... Just A Little Bit' and 'I Belong To You'. Elsewhere, the title track is irresistably cathchy and light on the ears, the ballad 'Everytime' has an intro so exquisite it is almost monumental, and 'It Doesn't Mean Goodbye' proving to be quite prophetic. Perhaps releasing 'Gimme Some Love' was a mistake, since 'Higher Than Love' is similarly emphatic, but the better song of the two. This is such a fun record: my favourite lyric being "My brother doesn't like you / My sister thinks your cool" from 'Rhythm of My Life' being especially giddy and adolescent. However, one of the best songs is the euphoric 'Follow The Light'. One thing about Gina G is that she has such a large cult following, perhaps due to her iconic imagery (note how fantastic the artwork is here), and the mystery that surrounds her (she did not release a follow up). She did record another album, but it was not released due to legal reasons. A few recent collaborations have surfaced online, the best of which is "Heaven" showing a more Dannii Minogue/Kelly Llorenna-esque sound. Nevertheless, these songs will never go away for a lot of people, of whom hold a very special place in their hearts for her. I too, had long been intrigued by her, and finally got this CD for a Christmas present. It was well worth the wait.

With the recent re-appearance of Gina G upon the TV screens on ITV in "Reborn in the USA", interest in this album should rise. And why not? I've always wanted this album since it came out, and now that I own it, I am glad that I went to the trouble of ordering it.
The songs on it are very varied, yet all of them have the catchy beat that "Ooh Aah...Just A Little Bit" had. Where as most Eurovision songs are exactly that, Gina G was different. This was a true pop/club anthem, and deserved the number 1 spot it reached in the UK charts.
Gina also realeased a suprising number of songs from the album, "I Belong To You", "Fresh", "Ti Amo", "Gimme Some Love" and "Higher Than Lover" (As a B side), and sadly each one did worse in the charts. But there is no real reason for this - the album is truely amazing, and when listening to it, it can't help but put a smile on your face with the dance songs, touch your heart with the ballards, and make you feel great with all the other songs.
I believe that this is a highly under-rated debut album. I hope Gina wins "Reborn In The USA"

"Fresh" by Gina G. is a much underrated album. Every track is brilliant, there are no fillers!! All the singles are here, and count them, there were 6: Ooh Ah!, I Belong to You, Fresh, Ti Amo, Gimme Some Love, and Everytime I Fall.
If you love pure pop like Steps, Geri Halliwell, and early Kylie and Dannii, then you'll love "FRESH"!!!!!!!!

'Ooh Aah -- Just A Little Bit' will, to me, always be remembered as the song that revitalised my interest in the music scene when it first appeared in 1996; before that 'songs' seemed to be a race for who could make the loudest noise or most controversial song or whatever. This had a catchy tune and was a lot of fun, so I looked forward to the upcoming album, which was this.
Gina Gardner (which is apparently what the G stands for) displays a huge amount of talent, not to mention a likeable charisma. Although she will undoubtedly be remembered for fast-paced dance tunes like 'Ooh Aah' and others here like 'I Belong To You', 'Follow The Light', 'Higher Than Love' and 'Rhythm Of My Life', her ballads are equally beautiful; 'Ti Amo', 'Every Time I Fall', 'Missing You Like Crazy' and 'It Doesn't Mean Goodbye' show just what a talented singer Gina is, and it is a shame that she did not get the recognition she deserved.
Even if you now think 'Ooh Aah' is dated now, the other songs here should satisfy.

It was perhaps in Gina G's best interests that she lost the Eurovision, they were not ready for this type of song and we had to wait until the controversial Dana International in 1998 and a televote to get europop winning. However Gina's song "Just a little bit" was a huge hit world wide and is a favourite of most people. This album is a cracker and displays all the talent Gina has. No fillers, dance floor stompers and beautiful ballads join hand in hand to produce one of the "freshest" albums of the decade and we will hear a lot more from her in the future. The album highlights the different levels in her voice and although the best song on the album is indeed "just a little bit" dont let this put you off, it is a classic! Other hits such as, "I belong to you", "ti amo", and "Everytime I fall", not to mention the title track "fresh" show a varied singer with a good ear for a song. It's a pity that she didn't release "Higher than love", but with a set of classy pop it is hard to select a favourite. BUY IT its worth the money and more!

Long forgotten about this album, one of my favourites back on it's release in 1997 .. but seeing GG on Reborn in the USA reminded me just how good and damn FRESH it was, so I hunted down a new copy .. and it's just as fresh sounding 6 years later. Ooh Ahh, the lead track is still a riproaring slice of Europop, more than deserving to win Eurovision, but the sucess that eluded GG there came to her as the song deservedly reached no1 the day later .. the rest of the album mixes well produced, hugely catchy dance numbers with some good, and admitedly some not so good ballads .. Higher Than Love, Gimme Some Love, Rhythmn of Love and Fresh are superb, and even the not so good tracks (Ti Amo and It Doesn't Mean Goodbye notably) are still well produced enough to warrant a second listen. The only bad thing I can say about Fresh is that one track, Every Time I Fall is truly terrible .. but the other 11 tracks more than make up for it. An album that Queen Kylie herself would be proud of, shut your eyes and pretend you're in G.A.Y and 17 again .. I did :) Be good folks x x
