This book is inspirational but also dynamite if we take what Foster says seriously in this materialistic world in which we live. My only disappointment is that with the Kindle version I've found it impossible most of the time to get to the notes at the back of the book - I found myself in a bizarre circle from the first page of the Notes to "You have now reached the end of this book" and back again which was most frustrating! I could get into the Notes easily with my Kindle app on my iPad, though , but that's not exactly the point is it?!!

This book could be good if you can get through the words. It makes it seem a little high brow. The ideas are sound and quite biblical probably a great way to live. Not a good read if you are looking for simplicity the writing is not simple enough for me. I suppose it was first published in 1981 I think the church has made a lot of progress since then especially in the penticostal type churches like Abundant life and Audacious in England and Hillsong Australia etc.

Heartfelt Read and new perspective of a simpler Christian life.

A magnificent publication. This book was suggested to me by my beloved Psychologist, Dr. Tombley. A wonderful book from a wonderful Doctor. Patience and it's conception written from an Old and New Testament perspective that is like no other. I learned things, gleaned things from this publication about the Old Testament that I did not know and I have had college courses on it. I have been a Christian my entire life, I have read the Bible my entire life. This book is rich with such a different way of looking at life, community, Christ, and the whole concept of simplicity. There is no easy way to describe this book. It truly must be experienced. The only way I know how to express it is at times I felt as if I were conversing (in my mind) with an old friend. It is one of the most pleasurable books to read that I have read in a long time. It gets to the heart of the Christian life and how to live it. You will not be disappointed.

This is a great book, but not casual reading. I read this every few years and enjoy the insights all over again each time.
Finding Harmony in a Complex World

Richard J. Foster is profound. His theology is based on extensive research and a life well examined. This book has two parts. The first examines the biblical roots for a life of simplicity. The second part offers six contexts in which to practice it. Together they establish the means and the validation for a life of "unhurried peace and power." Who cannot want that?

Pretty good - seems geared more toward pastors and other church leadership but I got several good things from it that I'll use.
