This is a seminal text in the area of learning and teaching, and was part of the revolution that moved education(some of it!) into a more student centred approach. This book, especially the section entitled 'for the teacher' has hardly ever failed to be a ground breaking read for trainee teachers, lecturers and trainers alike. Most educators cannot fail to deeply effected by Rogers' passionate and personal insights into the subject of facilitating learning and the nature of interpersonal relationships within the classroom. This has been a required read for all new lecturers and trainers' on every teacher trainer course I have been involved in, in Universities, corporate, public service and police organisations for the last 20 years. If you are an educator or trainer - buy it. It will change forever the way you view the process of learning and teaching. You will also gain the added bonus of making some really good friends out of your students.

If you are a teacher, this book is a must-read. In fact, it's the only sensible book that's been written about education in the last 50 years. Much quoted and hard to get in its original form, this is the Bible for teachers who genuinely care about teaching, and most importantly, about students.

Carl Rogers was an inspiration to me when I trained (1970s) to be a teacher. i have taught in many difficult schools and have seen nothing to persuade me away from his student-centred approaches. What is required is the bravery of educational systems to try out over long periods the Rogerian methods. In so doing everyone is freed-up and modern sterile systems can become dynamic and joyful. Yes - that's how much Carl Roger's philosophy impresses me. I feel sure this could result in teachers "whistling" on their way to work rather than "dread" some of the antagonistic encounters some of our teachers have to face.

I received this book which was not in a good condition as advertised. The front cover was ripped at the bottom with numerous dog ears. I did not get a receipt of payment within the packaging either. Not very happy overall.
