It must have taken some painstaking piecing together, but the hard work has paid off. What we have here is just about everything Freddie publicly said and it covers just about every aspect anyone could be interested in.
It's also refreshing to know that for once what we're reading is gospel truth at the time freddie said it. So no more crude opinions from people who have no clue what they're talking about, these words are from the great man himself. Because of the way it's been pieced together from recorded interviews and statements, it almost feels like Freddie is talking to you and is far more personal than anything that has been deliberatly written.
Freddie certainly had a lot of opinions and wasn't afraid to be blunt. But i'd prefer that to some wishy washy 'easy-to-forget' answers. I find myself hanging on his every word. As you read your way through the book, all his emotions come flooding out..his humour...his campness...his arrgoance... his passion and love and of course his love of music. It's all here and it makes for fasinating reading.
The most insightful and truthful Queen book out there, and it's from the horses mouth! Freddie remains a constant inspiration to millions. I don't know where i'd be without him.
His quotes build up a peek for the reader into his life, however, he never once discusses his lover from 1984, Jim Hutton, who has sadly passed away. Nor does he even discuss HIV and the fact that he knew he was dying. Unfortunately no-one will know what he thought. I would however recommend "Freddie & Me" by Jim Hutton, which was written at least 15 years ago. That is more intimate for the reader and very poignant and tearful.
Let's see... You will find inside neither Freddie's biography nor some serious analysis stuff of any kind. However, you won't need this as long as the quotes (provocative and ridiculous at the same time) keep you laughing.
Well, I heard the people saying that this book is just a bunch of "phrases said nobody knows where and when". Let's just drop the critics, ok? This is a perfect entertaining book, which you will definitely want to read all over again.
The photos can hardly be called rare, although, they're just a pleasant addition.
The original Hardcover edition (which I am also happy to own) had in my opinion more attractive white cover but is long out of print (and the price is far too high even if you find one) so, I beleive buying this paperback edition would a very good spending of your 10 pounds.
answers from a large variety of interviews, but you don't know the context of the questions. When he says "I've never tied my own shoe-laces," is he angry? is he joking? Also, very little indication of WHEN he said things is given, though sometimes I could work it out. Also, the answers he gave to an interviewer may
not be the same as his personal feelings. However, there are some
great quotes in it, and a fantastic selection of photographs.
