This story was not what I expected at all. It wasn't all about cheating. It was about a couple's love and devotion flying out the window and a wife's desperation to save her marriage, with no co-operation from her husband.
I totally felt for her and was gutted at his lack of response.
The twist in the tale was a total shock and so brilliantly executed!
I'm now looking forward to reading more of Ella Fields books!
Now then – there’s cheating, it’s not hidden so if that’s a trigger maybe you want to avoid this book, keep your blood pressure down and then you don’t need to sh!t all over the book when said cheating commences.
There you go, I said it, there is cheating in this book, but ……. all is not as it seems. There are good reasons for what happens and the cheating is not done gratuitously. Should she have done it? Probably not, but then again I don’t know how I would act in that situation, so glass houses and all that - no judgement here. I also totally got why Leo changed the way he did, the huge impact this had on his marriage and his family.
This is told entirely from Dahlia’s POV with a couple of snippets in flashbacks to show just how they loved each other, how IN love they were with each other and how happy they were. These little snippets show just how bad things had gotten for Dahlia and Leo, the changes in them both were so glaringly obvious. At times I wanted to get in Leo’s head but that would’ve given the twist away too soon, and what a bloody twist it was! It shocked the crap out of me, I definitely didn’t see that one coming and felt absolutely wretched for both Leo and Lia. I was heartbroken for them, I read with my stomach in knots for a good part of the book. Ah the FEELS!
I really loved this one, and can’t wait to see what Ella Fields comes up with next. Possibly one for Jared??
I'm not going to tell you anything about the story except go in with an open mind and avoid reviews that go too in depth because reading this book is like watching a flower bloom. Every word you read and every page you turn brings the story and characters to life. Secrets are revealed and one particular one gave me a jolt like I'd had an electric shock I was literally shocked speechless.
Normally in a book like this I don't like one character in particular but this was never an issue here for me. I didn't like some decisions that were made but I totally understand the motives behind them.
It's hard writing a vague review but I will tell you that I was hooked on the story and if you only buy one book this month then get this one you won't be disappointed.
It didn't really work for me. I can see why Dahlia felt unwanted and unloved but her daliance with Jared seemed a bit impulsive. Although they didn't go all the way, they certainly did other sexual things that I found just as bad and once I read of something like that, then I can't really feel any sympathy for the heroine and it makes me think she's not as in love with her husband as much as she professes to be. For me the story lacked emotion. I wasn't keen on the writing style. I found the male voice of Leo and Jared sounded the same.
I was intrigued about what Leo's problem was but when we find out, I didn't really feel anything. There was just something missing to make me connect with the characters and the story.
I read that this is a debut author, not sure if that's correct but if it is a debut then it has potential. It's still worth a read but it wasn't really my cup of tea.
This is an author and a story that held nothing back, that took absolutely no prisoners and was willing to ride rough shod over the sensitivities of life in order to show just how much these characters had been through and in many respects what they continue to suffer.
The author left her polite dictionary at home with this one, there were no light and fluffy descriptions, after all when it comes to cheating there is nothing nice to say and as a reader that is normally very much put off by a book where there is a cheating element I was feeling more than a little sceptical about this one but I should have had more faith because Ella Fields had this story dancing to a totally different beat…one that I could actually get on board with and didn’t have me looking for the off switch.
I really don’t want to spoil the story for you so you will need to read the book for yourself to get the nitty gritty but please understand that this is a very raw story, one that will not only tug at your heart strings but will strum them like a harp! There are some paragraphs where I could quite literally heart the pain and sorrow ooze from the page.
There is more than enough angst and attitude and enough twists and turns to keep the plot moving at a pace that kept my interest piqued and my appetite whetted.
I liked the fact that this was anything but ordinary, that it was realistic and that it took predictable and threw it out the window. This was as beautiful as it was raw and that is no mean feat.
