When Evie meets Landon they are preparing as a family for him to be a foster child in her family home. He's a troubled teen with a distressing background but he fits right in and he and Evie hit it off almost immediately. Watching their characters and friend ship grow in this first half of the book was something extremely special to read. It was emotional, it was fun, the characters written beautifully and their connection so very well portrayed by Ms James.
When they both realise that the thoughts and feelings they have for each other are leaning towards much deeper ones than are really allowed being foster siblings they try their hardest to keep things quiet and secret, but life has a strange way of dealing the cards and things don't turn out quite the way they expect.
Fast forward ten years and we once again get to meet up with Evie and Landon; what has happened to them both in the years that have passed them by and what secrets and revelations do we get to discover ?
The emotion this book evoked in me was heartwarming, this is ultimately a beautiful romance story, but there was angst, some hot lust fueled sex scenes, second chances, and moments that made my heart miss a beat. Told in duel perspective and in two parts - past and present this book for me was just PERFECT. I wanted more and could have read these two characters forever.
Not to be missed, this is a MUST read book - exceptional !!!!
The book is written from both Evie’s and Landon’s point of view, it is also split into two parts, past and present. We get to see teenage Evie and Landon and how they met, the chemistry between these characters is so real and captivating that you cannot help but root for them. The relationship that the couple have is so beautiful and yet heart-breaking, because we already know from the blurb that it is just a matter of time until they get caught.
The second half of the book is when we get to meet the adult versions of Evie and Landon, and what it means to them to see each other after so long apart. I won’t lie, I may have screamed at my Kindle a time or two. I was just so desperate for them to get back what they once had, and it was clear, you could feel it, that their need for each other was still so very much there. So yeah, just a bit of screaming involved, but don’t fret, I soon got what I wanted. And it was seriously hot!! The first half was more YA but boy do we get some major lust infested scenes with Evie and Landon’s older selves. Phew!!
Fractured Love is the first book by Ella James that I have read. I know, shocking, right?! I can hardly believe it myself, but you will be pleased to know that that will soon change, because after reading this book I can’t help but want more. The writing is so on point and the feels, oh man, I was in tears throughout most this book. My heart felt liked it was in a vice, and I was so on edge throughout the first half of the book, I will be surprised if I have any fingernails left. But you know, it was totally worth it. I crave books that claw that reaction out of me, after being in a book funk for almost a month, Fractured Love is exactly what I needed to get me back on track.
“There’s no such thing as serendipity. There’s no such thing as fate or soul mates.”
Written from a his and hers POV and in two parts—the past and the present—we're taken on a journey of friendship, first love and second chances. I loved how part one introduces us to a teenage Landon and Evie and despite their younger years, I was cheering them on from the start and they quickly worked their way into my affections.
“He took my heart. I’ve never found it.”
Fast forward ten years and despite all the heartache they've experienced, Evie and Landon have both become surgeons and find themselves working in the same hospital where the magnetism between them is as strong as ever bringing passion, emotion and revelations. But at the same time this part didn't have quite the overall impact of part one with some aspects of importance feeling rushed through, and others feeling a little neglected.
“I want to be where you are. Always.”
Had that been tighter, and possibly simply a little longer, then this would have taken Fractured Love from good to great as Ella James has a writing style that was easy to get along with and she clearly knows how to give her reader characters to love and become invested in. I just thought Landon and Evie deserved that bit more but all in all an enjoyable read which, with the exception pausing for the day job, I read in one sitting: I'll definitely be checking out more from Ella James.
