So how many post rock bands are there, where have all the vocalists gone, thankfully Caspian don't need one, as they're music is just layered with melodies. From the starting track Moksha, the melodies come in thick and fast, slow build, then acoustic guitar, then lovely pumping drums, before you know it, its built into a multi layered song, with a wonderful lead guitar, cutting through everything, which suddenly drops, into yet another melody, rising up again and again, then dropping into another melody, rising again etc etc . This is Caspians formula yet every song is different.
I was starting to tire of instrumental bands, having brought 'Mono'( who just sound like Mogwai done Japanese style) and Saxon shore, who don't go anywhere, but then my brother brought me Caspains 'You are the conductor', (which is awesome too), and I love post-rock again, they have brought something new to the ball park, and layers of guitar, melodic and powerful basslines, and a very original style of drumming. The songs are well crafted, structured, and fresh. I have yet to find a person who likes post rock, that doesn't think this is awesome.
Stand out track for me 'Brombie',it has an incredible break down 3.40min in, with a wonder bass and guitar melody just falling in,to be honest there isn't a bad track on here or there 1st album.
If you like Mogwai, Explosions in the Sky, Jakob, Sigur Ros, with a touch more rock, then you will adore this album. It doesn't really sound like a single band, this just sounds like Caspian
One warning the original copies of this album were pressed wrong( the band on the bad pressing cd was a stoner metal band) but I just brought 2 copies and they are both fine.
Sit back and enjoy some very original post rock.
I am at the moment

Well, it's been a fair while since I wrote the only review on Caspian's debut EP...and still, hardly anyone has reviewed any work of this band, which is a shame. So, I intend to go into detail on this one too, in the hope that others can witness the glorious layered soundscape that is this album.

Well, where can I even begin? Caspian have only even been formed for five years, and given how long established bands usually take to get moving in the music industry, they've done very well for themselves. I honestly think that they can (and will) get to the top of their genre. They certainly have enough musicial and composition talent to be rubbing shoulders with the best in post-rock, including Mono and Explosions in the Sky. Their EP was excellent, raw and alternating between brutal and beautiful at times, but 'The Four Trees' is something else. Caspian have evolved from their initial flurry of musicianship, and have really stepped up a gear with their first full-length album.

This time around, they've not excluded anything that was in the first EP, but merely built on it. More tracks, longer tracks, and a lot more development and crafting has gone into this album, and it shows. From the opening delicate notes of 'Moksha', which later tranforms into a whirlwind of (gently) wailing guitars and a cacophony of noise, you can tell that you've about to be both touched and blown away at the same time. It's a gift that few bands possess, and although I dislike comparing bands, they really are up there with EitS and the rest in terms of drawing emotions out from the listener. The musicianship is excellent, the composition even better. But enough about that...the tracks!

The opener, Moksha, is my personal favourite.
