Product description

Review

'This version remedies some of the shortcomings of the first edition and is now as near a complete exposition of Chinese medicine theory as could be presented in a single text. It is unlikely to be supplanted for years to come, if ever, and with Giovanni's similarly seminal textbooks on clinical practice, diagnostics, gynaecology and obstetrics and tongue diagnosis, forms the bedrock for all practitioners of Chinese medicine in the West.'

Peter Deadman

"The text is beautifully presented in two colours. A large number of clear illustrations and text boxes highlight the important points and aid readability. Learning outcomes are summarised at the end of each chapter. This is a well designed and easy to read textbook, which sources mainly from the classic Chinese medicine texts, including both ancient literature and modern books. It benefits from the author's rich experience in clinical practice in the West and his training in China. An in-depth understanding of the principles and theories of TCM enables the author to explain this complicated ancient healing system in a way that is understandable to Western students.
I would recommend this book to anyone who is interested in studying TCM systematically, particulary those intending to develop a career in acupuncture." R Guo, Exeter, UK

One translation of 'tai chi' is: 'supreme ultimate' and it would not be too flattering to apply this description to the book in question.

In depth coverage at a level comprehensible to occidental minds and clear explanations are Maciocia's forte. I have seen the first edition and thought it superb; the second edition is even better and an ideal refrence work for the practitioner of Chinese Medicine in any of its forms.

This is an excellent book for acupuncturists, shiatsu practitioners & co. It might be expensive, but I think it's worth the investment. I feel like I've barely scratched the surface & will be reading it for many years to come. I looked at the older version, but the layout in this one is much better.

I can't think of a better book to start studying Chinese Medicine or to deepen one's knowledge. The book is very well done, easy to read and navigate, with enough boxes to resume and illustrate an idea.
It's definitely a MUST HAVE!

have only browsed through certain topics so far, i am not a student, more a patient with an avid interest in TCM, the book looks very informative and insightful and is well presented as for the price well for your average joe its probably not worth it but i can understand it being worth it for full on students as it will be a great guidance to their courses.

You would beg, steal or borrow to get this magnificent book. It's truly a bible in this field. Nothing can provide you with such a thorough knowledge on TMC. With its CD-ROM containing pictures of organs and anatomical atlases it's indispensable position on a shelf of every TCM practitioner.

It is a good basic TCM book which helps student to kick star. However, please mr Maciocia dont repeat the context again and again to make the book thicker. Poor students has heavy enough books to carry around.
