Not being from a mathematical background, I was looking for something to get me into it quickly and quietly. Having tried various other books and failed miserably to understand them, this was like a hurricane of fresh air. I got through the whole thing in 5 days and understood the lot - a record for me when it comes to maths (we have a hate-hate relationship). I'd recommend this book any day!

I wanted to refresh my maths knowledge both for use in my work but also to confront some demons from my high school days. Maths unfortunately was not my strongest subject and i avoided it whenever i could, strange because i now work in the technology industry and i encounter maths alot. It was difficult trying to decide which book to go with, the math gods must have been looking down on me when i decided to take a chance on this book. I dont regret it all, it starts with the basics of each topic and supports your learning progress until you are confortable with the facts of the discussion. There are exercises to help improve your understanding of the topic, and as clearly stated by the author(s) these are not trick exercises they are there to help you and not to confuse you. I would recomend the book to anyone interested in beefing their math knowledge and advancing from there. This is an essential purchase in my opinion.

This book does exactly what it says on the cover: provide you with foundation mathematics from the very basics up to basic differentiation and integration. For a number of people it will be enough maths.

In reality, this book is a subset of Engineering Mathematics 6th Edition from the same author and publisher. It has all the chapters in part one of that book plus a few chapters from part 2. The layout and methodology are unsurprisingly the same as its big brother and are equally efficient. Maybe it is a bit easier to read due to the two-colours printing. It also has the same level of worked examples.

If you're doing a degree in engineering, physics, maths or finance I would recommend you to go for Engineering Mathematics, but if you need foundation only then this is a great book.

I really like this book. It is brilliantly unconventional too in that when you start a topic there will be some questions for you to answer straight off with the aim of showing you that you do or do not know the subject matter and therefore you, as the student, can see what you need to know to succeed with math. I am in no way good at math - so I say this from the perspective of someone that is still very much learning and this book has been terrific and indispensable.

Enjoy.

Got this to assist me in my engineering degree course. It covers a broad spectrum of topics yes but non of them in any depth whatsoever meaning that when looking at anything more than a basic equation from any of the topics it left you without a clue as to how to complete it.
Really shocked as to how useless this actually was, the course i'm doing has math tutorials to do as part of the syllabus and even as a reference guide the book was too scarcely detailed to be of use.

This book is well written and covers the most critical areas which are required as a foundation for more ambitious university studies - both in Pure Maths and Applied Maths. What I liked the most were the comprehensive exercises, which is sometimes missing from some broad based maths books. I purchased to support me with my second year Maths studies and would recommend it to anyone.

Great book. The explanation is detailed and takes you through step by step. The book really gives you confidence with mathematics, even if you used to struggle with it. There are topics in here which I struggled with for weeks at A Level but, using this book, mastered in hours.

The only downside is that there's no geometry or sequences, but you can find those in other books easily enough.
