Blood and Fire records never fail to hit the spot, and this is no exception. The playing is of the highest order, as you would expect, but what sets the album apart is the production style: the suitably mashed hihat and heavy melodic bass are there, but the mixes are, overall, in a different vein to Tubby/Jammy/Scientist. Special effects are used more subtly, making the songs seem more organic. If you like dub at all then buy this; if you don't then this is maybe a good place to start, being a little calmer than other dubs.

Impact All Stars -- Forward The Bass (Dub From Randy's 1972-1975) -- Blood & Fire ‎– BAFCD 022
Early days of b-side Dub/remix with concrete (+ sometimes very slow) rhythms by The Wailers and friends, sublime horn sections, and sometimes harmonica. The detailed booklet (by Steve Barow) points out that later 1970's Dub's had mixing desks with sliders that allowed for sounds to fade in and out, while Randy's studio only had buttons, which meant a slightly different bobbing in and out kind of Dub/remix approach effect is utilized and heard. Not that unlike Rupie Edwards early Dub LP's, with slightly more edge.
