You may already know I have a fascination with Classics Retold but did you know I am almost as obsessed with books containing mythology/theology. So you can imagine my delight when this little beauty popped up. A swoon worthy romance combining mythology alongside the battle of good versus evil.

The third person narrative provides a means to develop the multi-layered plot focusing on the relationship between the two main characters, Sadie and Theo. The characters are intense and their relationship is extraordinary, you know I love the whole soul-mate phenomena, well this takes it and amps it up a few decibel ;) Mixing the mythology of the underworld with religious concepts and idealogy.

The characters are engaging and intense, as the plot demands. However, the plot flow felt a little disjointed at times. There is a lot of back story and current action vying for attention in this book and this can be a little distracting. The story is fast paced and action packed, while this makes it a compelling read I did feel as if I would have liked a little more characterisation, especially of the peripheral characters. As well as a deeper understanding of the origin of the Shomrei warriors.

On the whole Forged by Fate is a quick, compelling read; one that leaves you in a state of anticipation for the next book.

HASH(0x8e99b840) out of 5 stars Fangs, Love, and Angel kisses! 9 Dec. 2013
By Rachel Firasek - Published on Amazon.com

Forged by Fate sucked me in and chewed me up--fangs and all. I'm so excited about this new series by Reese Monroe and looking forward to more from this world. The characters were awesome! I loved Theo's alpha tendencies, Sadie's fierce strength, Justin's loyalty and calm demeanor, Helena's wisdom, and Dasha's quirks.

There's a sweet passion in this book that builds and builds--and has plenty of happy endings. *winks* I never knew if this time was going to be "the time" and I loved how the author handled the whole situation.

Now lets talk fangs--my favorite. Theo sports a set of canine daggers that he's mostly ashamed of because they remind him of the demons he hunts. Let me tell you, I've never read a sweeter than watching this territorial alpha male get all shoulders-and-shucks when he accidentally bares them for the first time to Sadie. But, eventually, they were really hot. I wanted to see him take a bite out of her on more than one occasion.

All in all, this is an awesome story with a ton of action, a great cause, and a fantastic love story.

HASH(0x8e99ba8c) out of 5 stars must read, clean paranormal romance 23 April 2014
By Sarah-Lost in a Book - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Kindle Edition
Forged by Fate is the first book of the Bound by Hades Series. I really liked it and gave it four stars. I kept on wanting to come back to this story and finish it, but I had a hard time staying on track. At first I felt like I had to make myself read until I finally hit a certain point that had me hooked. Once I got into it, I had to know what was going to happen. Theo is the gatekeeper to Hades. He has waited almost a millennium to meet his mate. Can you imagine saving yourself for that long waiting for THE ONE? Once Theo’s Ahavah mark has appeared, he knows it is time to find his mate and unite as one. Finding her is easy; trying to get her to “come home” is another story.

Sadie is a college student beyond smart for her age. She is graduating from college at the age of 18. Sadie’s mark appears and suddenly her whole world changes. Sadie is also a black belt and has abnormal strength for a human. It isn’t until she talks with Theo about mates and her supernatural background that she realizes how her place in life and what her purpose of what she has accomplished and achieved will come into factor.

I wish us as mortals experienced the attraction & sensation of knowing who your mate is and the connection that Theo & Sadie share. It is a wonderful bond that can never be broken. Without each other, they become weak, but is their connection what can save them and the fate of the gatekeepers? This was a sweet and clean story without too much relationship drama. I really liked Theo but he was a little too nice for me. He didn’t have enough bad boy appeal. I’m hoping Justin is going to do my heart Justin in the next book. Check out this awesome read and get prepared for Justin’s story in Marked by Hades.

HASH(0x8e99bccc) out of 5 stars A strong beginning for an exciting new PNR series 12 Dec. 2013
By AJ - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Kindle Edition
“I’m the Gatekeeper of Hades.” He bowed his head. “And you…are my Mate.”

Yes, Theo is a Gatekeeper of Hades. That means that it is his job to monitor the presence of any demons escaping from the underworld so that he can banish them back to hell. He is strong, wise, and very experienced at what he does. He has spent 900 years protecting the US with his brother and Companion, Justin, all the while waiting for his Ahavah / mate – the one person that he is destined to be with, who he knows he will love fiercely, and the one who will allow him to come into his full power once he claims her.

Almost-18 year old Sadie Newland’s world gets completely knocked out from under her when gorgeously hot Theo enters her life. Having suddenly gained a strange tattoo on her shoulder a few days ago, which coincided with the appearance of some weird physical symptoms, she knows that something is going on, but she never expected the changes to her body to have anything to do with the mysterious stranger who she can’t stop staring at, and who can’t seem to keep his eyes off her.

Recognising Sadie as his mate, Theo is eager to claim her, but she is completely unaware of his world. So he and Justin start to introduce her into their (and now her) reality, taking things slowly while she comes to understand what it all means, all the while protecting her from a new threat of evil demons who seem determined to get to her.

I really like Sadie. She’s young, but she’s been through a lot in her life and has worked really hard to accomplish all that she has. She shows amazing strength and bravery upon her introduction to the supernatural world, even though it means that her carefully planned future is in jeopardy. And although she is understandably nervous of all that is expected of her, she’s determined to face it on her own terms, and not put up with somebody dictating her life to her.

It did take me a little longer than I expected, but of course I fell for Theo. He is a total badass while on the job, and although he has Alpha tendencies, he has a vulnerable side too. He is shy to introduce himself to Sadie, and is a little unsure around her to begin with. And despite his immense power, he also has devastating weaknesses and I really liked the way they got explored.

Theo is very intense. His commitment to Sadie has a supernatural foundation, so his love, protectiveness and need for her are all very extreme. He has waited 900 years for her, and has even kept himself from all other women out of respect for the woman that will be his mate. I was a bit worried about this to begin with, thinking that I wouldn’t connect with the romance if it was all pre-ordained, and they didn’t fall in love naturally. And I will admit, it took me a while to become invested in them together, but I liked the way their relationship developed - there is a great respect between them, and their partnership has a strong sense of equality. And in addition to their strong supernatural bond, I could feel the emotional connection between them as they grew closer, and I did eventually get caught up in all of the swoon.

Reese Monroe has created an interesting and unique paranormal world. The world builds slowly, and is expanded upon throughout the book as more and more is revealed and things become more complex. It’s a unique story which is full of action, with lots of fighting, cool supernatural powers and an evil bad guy with a fetish for kidnapping adding to the excitement, and the ending had my heart pounding with anticipation. Theo and Sadie are great together, and I enjoyed watching the bond between them deepen and evolve, as well as the surprises that came with seeing them both embrace their powers.

I’m definitely interested to see where the story goes from here.

HASH(0x8e99f048) out of 5 stars Fantastic new start to a new series. 10 Dec. 2013

Overall, I am ecstatic to have found another book by one of my favourite authors with a clear talent and love for writing in this genre.

This paranormal read is certainly unique of its own.

Filled with a great combination of suspense, romance, mystery, and action , which keeps the story moving at a rapid pace.

The chemistry between Theo and Sadie is toe curling - I loved there story and every aspect within.

It is Full of intrigue and twists and turns throughout the story, many happy moments * wink * and a well delivered storyline to boot.

I enjoyed the slow pace of the romantic and close moments as well as the tension filled ones that built the storyline. No wham bam thank you mam love story. Sadie and Theo were two very likeable and certainly strong characters. I enjoyed Theo's characterises, Sadies strong side and Reese Monroe has given us wonderful secondary characters that you will enjoy.

I am a sucker for a man with fangs and Theo is certainly no exception.

Reese Monroe has given the reader a new world , with an array of the paranormal . A fab new series, hot new characters, both male and female and an arry of new creatures with extraodinary traits and a love story that is smouldering.

We have characters within the story that are filled with depth and definition - distinctive characters that make the storyline. Witty dialogue at times and a compelling story that keeps the reader entranced till the very end.

Another kick arse action packed paranormal by this amazing author. I eagerly look forward to more in this series.

I am going to be totally honest, when I first started this, I wasn’t sure about it. It just wasn’t clicking with me for the first couple of chapters, but I kept going. I was actually kind of worried that it was going to be like the Midnight Breed or the Black Dagger Brotherhood series – I read fangs like the ones he hunted and thought no, please don’t be like some of my favorite books. Once there was more action, I was entranced and am so glad I kept going. It was nothing like Midnight Breed or Black Dagger Brotherhood and it will end up being an awesome series in it’s own right. I ended up loving Forged By Fate. I adored Theo and I loved Sadie. Theo’s brother, Justin, was awesome and had me smiling more than once, then I would turn the page and be touched by his loyalty to Theo.

In Forged By Fate we have Theo who is a 900+ year old Gatekeeper to Hades and Sadie who is an 18 year (or turns 18 shortly after the book starts) genius college student. She headed off to college at 16 and graduated in 2 years, plus she is a black belt and can kick butt all on hero own, which helps when you have a demon from Hell chasing you down.

There were some love scenes that were absolutely beautiful, yet still hot. I think every woman wants to be loved the way Theo loves Sadie, all encompassing, protective, yet proud of the fact that she can stand on her own two feet. It was just beautiful.

So, see, it is a good thing I kept going even with my initial uncertainty, it ended up being an absolutely fabulous book.
