About the Author

Jack King Kirby's comics career began in 1937 and continued for nearly six decades. With partner Joe Simon, Kirby first made his mark in comics in the 1940s by drawing and/or creating numerous features for DC Comics including Sandman, The Newsboy Legion and Manhunter, and for Marvel including Captain America, The Young Allies and the Kid Commandos. As the most valued team in comics, Simon and Kirby went on to create titles and concepts including Fighting American, Boy's Ranch and the creation of the romance comics genre. In 1961, the first issue of Marvel's Fantastic Four cemented Kirby's reputation as comics' preeminent creator, and a slew of famous titles followed that elevated him to legendary status, including The Incredible Hulk, Avengers and X-Men. Kirby returned to DC in 1971 with his classic Fourth World Trilogy, which was followed by The Demon and Kamandi. Kirby continued working and innovating in comics until his death in 1994.

Jack Kirby (/ˈkɜːrbi/; August 28, 1917 – February 6, 1994), born Jacob Kurtzberg, was an American comic book artist, writer, and editor widely regarded as one of the medium's major innovators and one of its most prolific and influential creators.

Kirby grew up poor in New York City, and learned to draw cartoon figures by tracing characters from comic strips and editorial cartoons. He entered the nascent comics industry in the 1930s, drawing various comics features under different pen names, including Jack Curtiss, before ultimately settling on Jack Kirby. In 1940, he and writer-editor Joe Simon created the highly successful superhero character Captain America for Timely Comics, predecessor of Marvel Comics. During the 1940s, Kirby, generally teamed with Simon, created numerous characters for that company and for National Comics, later to become DC Comics.

After serving in World War II, Kirby produced work for a number of publishers, including DC, Harvey Comics, Hillman Periodicals. At Crestwood Publications he and Simon created the genre of romance comics and later founded their own short-lived comic company, Mainline Publications. Ultimately, Kirby found himself at Timely's 1950s iteration, Atlas Comics, which in the next decade became Marvel. There, in the 1960s, Kirby and writer-editor Stan Lee co-created many of the company's major characters, including the Fantastic Four, the X-Men, and the Hulk. The Lee-Kirby titles garnered high sales and critical acclaim, but in 1970, feeling he had been treated unfairly, Kirby left the company for rival DC.

At DC, Kirby created his Fourth World saga, which spanned several comics titles. While these series proved commercially unsuccessful and were canceled, the Fourth World's New Gods have continued as a significant part of the DC Universe. Kirby returned to Marvel briefly in the mid-to-late 1970s, then ventured into television animation and independent comics. In his later years, Kirby, who has been called "the William Blake of comics", began receiving great recognition in the mainstream press for his career accomplishments, and in 1987 he was one of the three inaugural inductees of the Will Eisner Comic Book Hall of Fame.

Kirby was married to Rosalind "Roz" Goldstein in 1942. They had four children, and remained married until his death from heart failure in 1994, at the age of 76. The Jack Kirby Awards and Jack Kirby Hall of Fame were named in his honor.

It is interesting to see elements of today's problems spoken to in this early series, but in the fantastic way that Kirby has. Certainly the social manipulation that we contend with today is mirrored in the machinations of Glorious Godfrey and Darkseid.

Leitores de hj em dia não curtem muito, como vejo em muitos grupos. Mas KIRBY foi gênio, que além de criar, conseguia transmitir sua visão através de sua arte.
Gosto muito.

5.0 out of 5 stars You can't go wrong with Jack Kirby!

It's finally here - the final trade paperback collection of Jack Kirby's Fourth World books! The Forever People was my first exposure to Kirby's DC work, and I love it today as much as I did when I first read the stories back when they were originally published. The colors are absolutely beautiful, and my only complaint is that Beautiful Dreamer was not depicted on the cover of the trade as she was on the original cover of the comic. Other than that, this and every other book that DC has published reprinting Kirby's work are a great addition to any comics library. Now we just need an OMAC collection to add to the list.

5.0 out of 5 stars Action and Adventure Jack Kirby style!

The Forever People is the third installment of Jack Kirby's Fourth World series and it's another gem! Written in the late 60's early 70's, it captured the hippie culture quite well as the heroes are nonconforming of the days' norm. There are some suprise guests in the series and a whole load of action! It's a great read!

5.0 out of 5 stars A great entry in the fourth world saga

Jack Kirby is a fantastic writer and artist, and this is no exception. Forever People gets a bit more of a look into the anti-life equation, and it's very interesting the subtext of it, dealing with free will. The stuff with Glorious Godfrey is also very good. A man who says what people want to hear in order to justify their violence towards another. The one critique I might have is that, while they work Deadman in pretty well, Superman feels out of character. Thankfully, Superman only appears in the first issue, the rest is about the Forever People. Overall, this is a fantastic read
